Job Location: New York, NY, United States
Job Description:
Lifeguards Wanted: Are you Whistle Worthy?
Take the Qualifying Exam…
This is one of the best jobs in New York City and a guaranteed way to be in top physical condition while helping to keep millions of New Yorkers safe.
Parks' beaches are open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, and the pools are open from late June through Labor Day. Lifeguards work 48 hours each week and first-year lifeguards will earn a minimum of $12.55 an hour, or approximately $600 / week.
As one of just 1,200 New York City Lifeguards, you are part of an elite group that is committed to serving the public.
But the first step to becoming a NYC Lifeguard is to take the Qualifying Exam, which is being held at 11 locations citywide. Visit www.nyc.gov/parks or call 311 to find out specific information about testing sites, dates and times.
City of New York/Parks & Recreation is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
Job Requirements:
Candidates interested in becoming a lifeguard must first pass a qualifying test.
To qualify, you must:
• Be able to swim 50 yards in 35 seconds with proper form.
• Have a minimum of 20/30 vision in one eye and 20/40 in the other, without corrective lenses. Glasses and contact lenses may not be worn during the eye exam.
• Be at least 16 years old when the position begins. If you are under 18, you must have working papers by the date of hire.
Once you've passed the qualifying test, you're able to go onto the next step of becoming a New York City Lifeguard: the Municipal Lifeguard Training Program, a state-certified program that teaches applicants the critical skills of CPR, first-aid, and techniques for saving a swimmer in distress. You must successfully complete the Municipal Lifeguard Training Program to become certified as a New York City Lifeguard.
How To Apply:
Visit www.nyc.gov/parks or call 311 to find out specific information about testing sites, dates and times.
