Job Description:

ARD, Inc. (http://www.ardinc.com) is recruiting for a short-term Participatory Rural Assessment (PRA) Specialist for its Local Governance and Community Development Project, which works in underserved and/or insecure areas of operation in priority districts of northern, central and western Afghanistan. Responsibilities: -- Conduct a survey and assessment of existing project-employed community-based mobilization systems and tools; -- Propose an enhanced PRA Toolkit of 6-8 proven tools, templates and report formats; develop a comprehensive PRA Toolkit and training materials; -- Train 20 field staff; and -- Provide community-based mentoring/coaching to ARD field staff in targeted communities in underserved and insecure areas. ARD employs a full spectrum professionally managed security system.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications: -- Minimum 5 years of directly relevant PRA experience in developing countries, preferably with experience in post and ongoing conflict environments. -- Demonstrated capability to produce professional quality deliverables (including training materials) and transfer knowledge, skills and abilities to national staff via workshops and field-based mentoring and coaching.

The candidate must accept and be comfortable with the challenges and limitations of working in very traditional, conservative rural areas of Afghanistan. The assignment will commence in mid- to late April and is estimated at 80 work days.
