Supported by a world-wide network of resources including state – of – the – art warehousing facilities, bulk fuel installations, and real time freight tracking capabilities, our client provides workable resolutions to complex client requirements in the areas of food logistics, catering, retail, site services, and fuel management.
Our Client is the Fuels Trading Division of a multi-national food logistics and facilities provider. They provide vital services in fuel management and supply both the military and private companies operating in post conflict and remote areas.
They are currently seeking a Laboratory Manager to manage an aviation fuel laboratory based in Afghanistan.
Reporting to the Quality Manager, the prime objective of the Laboratory Manager will be the management and control of an Aviation Fuel Laboratory; maintaining files and documentation related to test data, equipment, and results; and providing technical expertise in support of the Quality Program.
The key tasks of the role include advising the Quality Manager on required updates in SOPs and facilities, ensuring the most recent version of all relating international standard is readily available at the laboratory, making sure all Quality Management System documentation is readily available to all laboratory employees and that all laboratory employees are informed on updates.
You will also be responsible for reviewing and submitting quality and quantity surveillance programs for petroleum, writing SOPs and training programs related to laboratory operations, and providing training.
Additional tasks include evaluating subordinates and ensuring daily, weekly, and monthly lab reports are complete, accurate, and submitted on designated times to the designated people.

Knowledge and Skills:
The successful candidate requires extensive experience in Petroleum Laboratory Testing and Operations, knowledge on manuals and publications associated with petroleum testing, and operating fuel test kits.
You will have an excellent understanding of concepts and equipment of Petroleum Operations and a thorough knowledge of quality surveillance for fuels.
Your practical experience should be supported by a Degree in a relevant scientific subject or equivalent.
You should possess good communication skills in English, and be able to adapt to rapid changes in a positive manner and work to tight deadlines.
Superb inter-personal skills and instant credibility are essential as you will be inter-facing with a number of people from different backgrounds, nationalities, and religions.
Familiarity of local language would be extremely helpful. You must be in excellent physical condition and possess normal colour vision to perform other related tasks.
Finally, you should possess a Driver's License and be PC / IT literate.
This is an outstanding challenge for accomplished petroleum laboratory testing professional looking for something different. Whilst our Clients operation is somewhat unique they are in it for the long term and are looking for a minimum of 12 – 18 months commitment.
The basic salary is paid in US Dollars and is tax free for an Ex-Patriate employee. In addition there is an annual profit share bonus payable after 12 months service, which is also paid in US Dollars and tax free for an Ex-Patriate employee. Accommodation, laundry, local transport, health insurance (not USA and Canada), meals, and non –alcoholic drinks are provided free. In addition, you will have the use of a phone to call family and friends and also the internet for e-mails, etc.
Western Ex-Patriate employees will receive 63 days annual leave per year and the working rota is approximately 14 weeks on, 3.5 weeks off
In addition Western Ex-Patriate employees will receive 3 paid return economy flights per year. Mobilization and De-Mobilization flights are also paid for by our client.
