926 - Retail Trainer

Job Location: Kandahar Air Field, Afghanistan

Job Description:

Supported by a world-wide network of resources including state – of – the – art warehousing facilities, bulk fuel installations and real time freight tracking capabilities, our client provides workable resolutions to complex client requirements in the areas of food logistics, catering, retail, site services, aviation and fuel management.


Our Client is the Retail Services Division of a multi- national food logistics and facilities provider and operates retail shops, cafes etc located in military camps in post conflict areas of the world.


They are currently seeking a Retail Trainer to be based initially at Kandahar Air Field, Afghanistan for the various shops and café units.


Reporting into the General Manager – Retail, you will ensure the cost effective and efficient running of the shops and café units, with the highest skill level, interpersonal skills and attributes applicable to multi site management in line with divisional and company objectives whilst ensuring that a superior and professional service is maintained to our clients customers.


You will lead and guide the Retail Store Manager, Customer Service Supervisor and Customer Service Cashier in the daily operation to achieve the ‘Prime Objective’.


You will bring the shops and cafés up to international standards in customer service, customer experience and overall food and beverage quality.


You will be responsible for the training of shop and café staff – improve efficiency, work flow process and customer handling and finally you will redefine and implement policies and procedures in line with corporate requirements and operational needs.

Job Requirements:

Knowledge and Skills:


To meet this unique challenge, you will be an ambitious retail professional with your retail experience ideally gained in an international recognised retail / duty free operation or in international fast food i.e. McDonalds, Starbucks etc


You will be an accomplished Retail Manager or a Department Manager looking for your next promotion with experience in customer service, retail sales, hands on merchandising, staff supervision, financial reporting, trend analysis, budgeting and inventory control essential.


You should be familiar with retail EPOS and computer based stock and WMS systems and should also have an appreciation of warehouse and logistics operations.


With outstanding leadership ability, highly motivated team player and a strong customer focus, you will have the confidence to win credibility and make an immediate contribution. You should be outgoing and a friendly approach is all important, not to mention the enthusiasm and commitment to make a positive impact on others’ lives.


You should possess excellent communication skills in English and ideally one other language and be able to adapt to rapid changes in a positive manner and work to tight deadlines.


Superb inter-personal skills and instant credibility are essential as you will be inter-facing with a number of people from different backgrounds, nationalities and religions.


Finally you should possess a Drivers Licence.


This is an outstanding challenge for an accomplished Retail Manager looking for something different. Whilst our Clients operation is somewhat unique they are in it for the long term and are looking for a minimum of 18 to 24 months commitment.


The basic salary is paid in US Dollars and is tax free for an Ex-Patriate employee. In addition there is a bonus payable which is paid annually and is also paid in US Dollars and tax free for an Ex-Patriate employee.


Accommodation, laundry, local transport, medical insurance and meals are provided free. In addition employees have the use of a phone to call family and friends and the internet for e-mails etc.


Western Ex-Patriate employees will receive 63 days annual leave per year and the working rota is approx 14 weeks on, 3.5 weeks off.


Western Ex-Patriate employees will receive 3 paid return economy flights per year and Mobilization and De-Mobilization flights are also paid for by our client.
