Job Description:
Founded in 1957, our clients parent Group has over 50 years of experience developing and operating customized supply chain and associated service solutions in demanding environments. Supported by a world-wide network of resources including state – of – the – art warehousing facilities, bulk fuel installations and real time freight tracking capabilities, our client provides workable resolutions to complex client requirements in the areas of food logistics, catering, retail, site services, aviation and fuel management.
Whilst construction has long been part of their service portfolio our client has now decided to co-ordinate their construction activities into a separate division within the group and are currently seeking a Construction Director to be responsible for all aspects of the division. The position reports into the Managing Director and will be based in Dubai.
The successful candidate will ensure the Construction Division is developed and functioning at an optimal level compliant with all contract requirements, by: Developing the construction operation and find cost effective and operationally viable options to improve processes, improve efficiencies and grow the business internally and externally, leading the business development, staffing, operations and delivery of construction programs across all regions and developing a viable strategy for the Construction Division.
Specifically you will develop a planned approach to bring all current construction work into the one Division and will review operational gaps and opportunities.
You will ensure quality delivery of construction services within the Company and to third parties – client satisfaction and margin capture.
You will develop, implement and ensure compliance of standard operating procedures (SOP’s), plan for and manage change.
You will be responsible for the preparation of the annual marketing plan in conjunction with Operations Controllers, ensure customer satisfaction levels are surveyed, analysed and provide recommendations for improvement and will assist / review and submit all commercial bids and proposals.
You will measure the effectiveness of staff training and development programs as proposed by Operations Controllers and General Managers and will identify and develop business unit HR strategies with the Operations Controllers and HR department.
You will be responsible for the P&L of the division and will and gauge business value (ROI).
In conjunction with the Director of Finance and Financial Controllers, you will be responsible for the preparation and achievement of each departments monthly/quarterly/ annual budgets, analyse capital requirements of the business and prepare targets in conjunction with Financial Controller.
Finally you will drive the formal communication process in each department and actively coach direct reports to achieve their goals.
Job Requirements:
You will be a highly accomplished Construction Director / Manager with significant experience as a senior manager in international construction projects. Your practical experience should be supported by a Degree in a relevant engineering discipline. An MBA is desirable.
You should have remote site experience in Africa and the Middle East and ideally some in post conflict areas, e.g. Iraq, Afghanistan, Sudan.
You will have an excellent knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning and resource allocation, and excellent business analytical skills.
You will have proven entrepreneurial abilities, strong commercial acumen with the ability to present arguments and influence business decisions.
You should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and ideally, one other language.
You should possess a high level of initiative, problem solving and decision making ability, be able to adapt to rapid changes in a positive manner, work to tight deadlines, and pay attention to the detail.
Superb inter-personal skills and instant credibility are essential as you will be inter-facing with a number of people from different backgrounds, nationalities, and religions.
Finally, you should possess a Driver's License and be an experienced PC User, familiar with MS Office, Outlook, the internet, and Microsoft Project.

The basic salary is paid in US Dollars and is tax free for an Ex-Patriate employee. In addition there is an annual profit sharing bonus payable, which is also paid in US Dollars and tax free for an Ex-Patriate employee. A relocation / furniture allowance is also payable, and an allowance is payable towards childrens' school fees.
A Jeep Cherokee Sport is provided as a company car, or alternatively, a car allowance of 615 US Dollars per month may be taken. Family medical cover is provided as is a laptop and mobile phone.
The holiday entitlement is 5 weeks plus public holidays. Ex-Patriate employees will also receive 1 paid return economy flight per year, and Mobilization and De-Mobilization flights are also paid for by our client.
