1041 - Transport Director

Job Description:

Reporting into a main Board Director, the successful candidate will lead the business development, develop sea and land inbound freight transport strategy, future operations, transport provider contract negotiations and oversee efficient operations for the delivery of sea and land transport across the whole of our clients operations. You will provide management direction and policy determination for all sea and land freight activities, interfacing with major shipping line and land transport providers and deal with specialized transport and logistic problems as they relate to the region, customer, local government, service provider and unexpected issues. Specifically you will lead the sea and land freight operations for the defined purpose and provide focus, direction and energy for sustainable and profitable service provision. You will lead our clients transport operations management team and a team of operational staff. You will continually monitor that all service providers meet our clients expectations in terms of quality, service and price and will actively source and negotiate current market rates for sea freight rates to ensure incumbent providers provide the most cost effective service. You will be responsible for transportation analysis and savings/cost opportunity analysis and the implementation and management of cost analysis measures. You will plan and monitor budgets, identify mode optimization opportunities and monitor and provide summary reporting on inbound carrier performance and compliance. You will develop and maintain positive relationships with existing and potential shipping line providers and other industry partners and will ensure accurate forecasting of volume projections to core carriers. You will ensure timely submission of operation templates from carriers including a carrier scorecard, monthly reporting and operational excellence projects and will monitor overall performance against scorecards goals and expectations. You will direct and manage all aspects of the customer requirements with emphasis on flexible and rapid responses. You will liaise with the various transport departments throughout our clients operations as required with regards to the transportation and import of goods and will ensure claims handling process is in accordance with the policy and procedures. You will constantly review and (re-) design the infrastructure and systems environment of the transport department in line with best practice methods. Finally you will implement processes to ensure all sea and land freight documents and load manifests in relation to the import and export of goods are true and correct, so that all sea freight moves on time and without undue delay. ________________________________________________________________________

Job Requirements:

Knowledge and Skills:

You will be an outstanding international transport professional with proficiency in European, Middle East and African international shipping route planning, scheduling, rates and international freight forwarding procedures.

Your work experience should be supported by a Degree in Business Administration, Management or Logistics and Supply Chain. An MBA is preferred. You will have the ability to develop “bottom up” business models in third world countries and should be capable of making a decision whether our client outsources or performs its services in these countries themselves – and then be capable to set up and manage the business.

In addition you should have experience of marketing transport services to US and other Armed Forces – therefore a military background and knowledge of the US Military Transport business (TRANSCOM) is highly desirable.

You will have great carrier and broker contacts and experience with LTL, FTL, Air, Small Package, and/or ocean transportation.

You will possess strong organizational and negotiation skills, be extremely detailed and accurate, commercially astute and a creative problem solver.

You will have the ability to plan, organize and direct the work of the Transport team and to train them in transport operations, principles and practices.

Superb communication and negotiation skills and instant credibility are essential supported by high personal energy levels and enthusiasm. With outstanding leadership ability and a strong customer focus, you will have the confidence to win credibility and make an immediate contribution.

You should possess excellent communication skills in English and ideally one other language and be able to adapt to rapid changes in a positive manner and work to tight deadlines.

Superb inter-personal skills and instant credibility are essential as you will be inter-facing with a number of people from different backgrounds, nationalities and religions.

You will be resourceful with a flexible outlook, have the ability to multi-task in order to handle competing priorities and be able to fit in to an international dynamic and multi-cultural environment. Finally you should possess a Drivers Licence and be PC / IT literate.

The basic salary is paid in AED and is tax free for an Ex-Patriate employee. In addition there is a bonus earning opportunity which is also paid in AED and tax free for an Ex-Patriate employee.

In addition you will receive 25 days holiday plus public holidays, health insurance and 1 paid return family economy flight per year. Mobilization and De-Mobilization flights are also paid for by our client. A Relocation Allowance of USD 4,500 is available and also assistance with schools fees. A lap top and mobile phone are provided for company business.
