Our client is the Support Services Division of this expanding international facilities Group which manages the design, construction and operation of sites for clients who need to operate in some of the world’s most challenging environments.

They are currently seeking Welder / Fabricators to work at Kandahar Air Field and Camp Bastion, Southern Afghanistan. Reporting to the Site Services Manager, the successful candidate will provide a variety of welding and fabrication services ensuring a high level of professionalism and work ethic. You will work on a variety of tasks associated with camp maintenance. You will supervise a small team of Technicians and will monitor their work in progress. This includes being able to allocate tasks and report on the status of said tasks. You will accurately calculate material quantities and generate purchase requisitions and record all materials onto job cards for billing purposes. You will be responsible for the ordering of materials to perform the above tasks and will look after all assets during the performance of your duty, reporting any anomalies to the Site Services Manager. Finally you will assist in obtaining new business for the fabrication / welding team and will ensure that all paperwork and record keeping is up to date.

Job Requirements:

Knowledge and Skills:

You should be an energetic and accomplished English speaking Welder / Fabricator who can ideally speak fluently at least one other language which may be your native language.

Your work experience should ideally be supported by a relevant trade qualification.

You will be able to decide on equipment selection determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.

You will have experience of Quality Control Analysis conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance and experience of equipment maintenance performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.

You will possess design knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models, building and construction knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses, buildings, or other structures.

Your engineering and technology knowledge will include applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various projects, production and processing knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing effective manufacture.

You will have previous experience of working with and supervising third world tradespersons, and have the ability to motivate and enforce “Western” work practices and standards.

You should possess excellent communication skills in English and one other language, and be able to adapt to rapid changes in a positive manner, work to tight deadlines and pay attention to the detail.

Superb communication skills and instant credibility are essential as you will be inter-facing with a number of people from different backgrounds, nationalities and religions.

This is an outstanding challenge for a Welder / Fabricator looking for something different.

The basic salary is paid in US Dollars and is tax free for an Ex-Patriate employee. In addition there is an annual bonus payable after 12 month’s service which is also paid in Euros and tax free for an Ex-Patriate employee. Shared accommodation, laundry, local transport, permanent disability and death benefit, bereavement leave and meals are all provided free. In addition you will have the use of a phone to call family and friends and also use of the internet for e-mails etc.

Ex-Patriate employees will receive 40 days annual leave per year. In addition Ex-Patriate employees will receive 1 paid return economy flight in their first year of employment and thereafter 2 return economy flights per year. Mobilization and De-Mobilization flights are also paid for by our client.
