1054 - Water Treatment Plant Supervisors

Our client is the Support Services Division of this expanding international facilities Group which manages the design, construction and operation of sites for clients who need to operate in some of the world’s most challenging environments.

They are currently seeking Water Treatment Plant Supervisors to work at Kandahar Air Field and Camp Bastion, Southern Afghanistan.

Reporting to the Waste Services Manager the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the efficient functioning of the water treatment plant for the provision of safe and clean water in accordance with our clients high standards, policies and procedures.

You will supervise and schedule the activities of the Water Plant Operators and any casual staff and will supervise the maintenance of the water treatment plant in order to ensure the availability of a clean water supply.

You will inspect the water treatment plant systems on a daily basis to ensure effective operations and will keep a daily log and ensure records and inventories are maintained.

You will prepare work order reports for servicing and repairs and will recommend purchase of goods and equipment. Finally you will establish and coordinate a preventative maintenance program.

Job Requirements:

Knowledge and Skills:

You should be an energetic and accomplished English speaking water treatment plant professional who can ideally speak fluently at least one other language which may be your native language.

You will have sound knowledge of water and sanitation systems management, water sampling and testing techniques, water plant operation, maintenance of pumps, valves and chemical treatment systems.

You will ideally have experience of supervising water treatment operations in post conflict and / or remote areas.

Basic experience and knowledge in mechanical, plumbing, heating and electrical fields is highly desirable.

You will have previous supervisory experience which should include experience of supervising third world tradespersons, and have the ability to motivate and enforce “western” work practices and standards.

You should possess excellent communication skills in English and one other language, and be able to adapt to rapid changes in a positive manner, work to tight deadlines and pay attention to the detail.

Superb communication skills and instant credibility are essential as you will be inter-facing with a number of people from different backgrounds, nationalities and religions. Finally you should have a Drivers Licence and be PC / IT literate.

This is an outstanding challenge for a water treatment plant professional looking for something different.

The basic salary is paid in US Dollars and is tax free for an Ex-Patriate employee. In addition there is an annual bonus payable after 12 month’s service which is also paid in Euros and tax free for an Ex-Patriate employee. Shared accommodation, laundry, local transport, permanent disability and death benefit, bereavement leave and meals are all provided free. In addition you will have the use of a phone to call family and friends and also use of the internet for e-mails etc.

Ex-Patriate employees will receive 40 days annual leave per year. In addition Ex-Patriate employees will receive 1 paid return economy flight in their first year of employment and thereafter 2 return economy flights per year. Mobilization and De-Mobilization flights are also paid for by our client.
