PROGRAM BACKGROUND
With funding from the US State Department Bureau for Population, Refugees and Migration (BPRM) and the Basic Services Fund, International Medical Corps is currently implementing a primary and secondary health program in Akobo, Jonglei State. IMC’s programs aim to improve access to basic primary health services to refugees, returnees and host communities in and around Akobo.
JOB SUMMARY
The primary function of the Health Coordinator is to supervise and coach all health technical staff in the designated site and coordinate with health coordinators/program managers of other sites of the same state or county. Functionally the Health Coordinator will liase and report technically to the Medical Director.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Lead the health program implementation of the site using mentoring, coaching and on the job training to ensure the effectiveness of subordinates.
2.Ensure quality assurance of the entire health program in compliance with the Sudanese MOH Basic Package of Health Services and protocols and facilitate a continuum of care between the health facilities and the community.
3.Conduct basic obstetric surgery
4.Ensure that primary health care (PHC), maternal and child health (MCH) and HIV/AIDS service statistics and all the required reports are properly collected from each health facility and submitted in a timely manner to the immediate supervisor and respective departments/line mangers as appropriate.
5.In coordination with the Medical Director, identify the required equipment, drugs, medical supplies and furniture needs for the health facilities and prepare and submit requisitions to the Juba office.
6.In coordination with the Medical Director, coordinate training of health care staff including EPI workers, clinical officers, community health workers, community based traditional birth attendants, maternal and child health care workers, HIV/AIDS counselors and other staff on reproductive health and family planning.
7.Develop and maintain strong working relationship and coordinate with State and County authorities, relevant international and local agencies engaged in similar activities in the county, including UN and other NGOs
8.Ensure/maintain staff recruitment and management, including mentoring, identification and provision of required support.
9.Carry out any other duties as requested by the relevant supervisors
QUALIFICATIONS
1.Nursing/medical degree with specialized knowledge and experience in PHC, MCH and reproductive health.
2.Must have experience conducting C-Sections.
3.Must have previous experience in management, supervision and organization.
4.Previous experience of implementing primary health care projects, with at least 3 years of relevant project management experience.
5.Must have experience in providing training and/or education.
6.Previous work experience in emergency setting with at least 3 years experience in an international organization;
7.Previous relevant experience in Africa – South Sudan highly valued;
8.Flexibility and willingness to adjust to changing responsibilities or needs as they arise.
9.Demonstrated analytical and conceptual skills to design and plan projects;
10.Able to prepare plans and reports.
11.Experience working with host governments, INGOs and national NGOs and familiarity with international humanitarian operations;
12.Proven ability to work cooperatively with others in a team environment;
13.Professional fluency in spoken and written English;
14.Very good knowledge of logistics and admin/HR;
15.Basic computer skills-Microsoft Office.
LANGUAGES
• Ability to read, write, analyze and interpret, technical and non-technical in the English language.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond appropriately to questions from senior managers in the field and HQ, counterparts, senior government and rebel leaders and other related regional players
