PROGRAM BACKGROUND
Responding to the severe lack of health providers in South Sudan, International Medical Corps through funding from UNFPA, will be implementing a training program that will help prepare competent compassionate enrolled midwives working at the health facility level. The project will contribute significantly South Sudan’s Strengthening Human Resources for Health strategy through modification of interventions at the National Health Training Institute in Kajo Keji and the National Midwifery School in Wau. The program will ultimately contribute to reducing the maternal and newborn morbidity and mortality rates and improve the health of the population of South Sudan.

JOB SUMMARY
International Medical Corps is recruiting two Midwifery Tutors to teach a two and a half year midwifery certificate program in the National Health Training Institute in Kajo Keji and the National Midwifery Training School in Wau.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Impart the required knowledge, skills and attitudes to students enrolled in the midwifery programs according to national curricula, using a variety of teaching methods.

2.Prepare lesson plans and conduct theoretical and practical training of students in classrooms and in clinical settings.

3.Prepare hand-outs for teaching sessions for the students.

4.Select and utilize appropriate and available teaching aids to transfer knowledge and skills.

5.Plan clinical instruction based upon approved syllabus/outline to ensure course contents are covered and all learning objectives are met.

6.Attend the clinical settings with students, teach the required skills and supervise students while practicing.

7.Serve as liaison between the institute and the teaching hospital (clinical setting) in matters pertaining to the students’ clinical practice.

8.Plan for semester training sessions at the beginning of that semester, so that the content of the curriculum will be completely covered. A copy of this plan should be shared with the management and with students.

9.Conduct continuous and final assessment of students’ theoretical and clinical abilities.

10.Design and assist in administration and grading of the examination papers.

11.Record the results of the students’ assessments and other important information in organized files, and provide the management/administration with copies at the end of each month.

12.Maintain a high level of student attendance by checking and keeping accurate daily attendance records, record absentees, and communicate attendance concerns to the administration/management for necessary action.

13.Assess educational needs of the learners, evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs and make recommendations for program improvement or content revision.

14.Be available to advise students and provide assistance as needed.

15.Cooperate with all funding partners on issues related to training of nursing and midwifery students, and participate in training sessions that will be based on “teaching and evaluation methodology”.

16.Maintain cooperation with administration and management of the training institute.

Job Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS
1.Degree in Nursing and/or Midwifery
2.Registered Midwife in one’s respective country of practice
3.Minimum 3 years of experience in clinical practice
4.Minimum 3 years of experience in teaching Midwifery
5.Basic computer skills such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and internet
6.Fluency in English.
7.Good communication skills (both oral and written)
8.Strong interpersonal, organizational and critical thinking.
9.Good leadership and problem solving skills

LANGUAGES
• Ability to read, write, analyze and interpret, technical and non-technical in the English language.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond appropriately to questions from senior managers in the field and HQ, counterparts, senior government and rebel leaders and other related regional players
