PROGRAM BACKGROUND
This Project aims to strengthen the physical rehabilitation services in certain areas of Libya, through upgrading of primary rehabilitation and the development of community and outreach services. The locations are Tripoli, Misurata and Benghazi but are subject to change.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
IMC is working in Benghazi with the Benghazi Rehabilitation Centre and Benghazi Medical Centre to develop its core competencies in rehabilitation. This includes prosthetics and orthotics. IMC is also proposing to run an outreach prosthetics service, based on fitting and repairing basic devices.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/SCOPE OF WORK:
To develop the prosthetics orthotics component of the EC rehabilitation programme, offering capacity building support to Libyan rehabilitation centres. And guiding IMC in developing work in P+O in Libya
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Based around the Rehabilitation centres in Benghazi, Misurata and Tripoli
• Identify training needs in the Rehabilitation centres that IMC works with
• Develop and implement any training that might be needed on the fitting and making of P+O devices (Otto Bok is the current technology used)
• Identify possible trainers within the centres and develop ToT programmes
• Advice the development of a small outreach programme that focuses on measuring, fitting and mending devices
• Provide technical advice to the MoH as needed
• Advice the IMC physiotherapists on P+O issues
• Work with other staff in the EC funded programme – Disability Adviser, Physiotherapists, Social Worker and Team Leader as well as disabled people to guide the programme in P+O work and future possibilities
QUALIFICATIONS:
• ISPO category I or equivalent qualifications in Prosthetics and Orthotics
- At least 4 years experience in prosthetics and orthotics
- Experience in a development or low-income context
- Experience of P&O professional training (Including curriculum development).
• Experience in the Arab world preferable
• Training skills essential
• Personal qualities include a sense of initiative, strong work ethics, very good communication skills, self-confidence and commitment to disability issues.
• Languages: Fluency in oral and written English, and preferably Arabic as well.
• Computer skills: Proficiency in current office software applications.
LANGUAGES
• Ability to speak Arabic a plus
