PROGRAM BACKGROUND
Responding to the severe lack of health providers in South Sudan, International Medical Corps through funding from UNFPA, will be implementing a training program that will help prepare competent compassionate enrolled midwives working at the health facility level. The project will contribute significantly South Sudan’s Strengthening Human Resources for Health strategy through modification of interventions at the National Health Training Institute in Kajo Keji and the National Midwifery School in Wau. The program will ultimately contribute to reducing the maternal and newborn morbidity and mortality rates and improve the health of the population of South Sudan.



ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
•Provide clinical instruction to midwifery students based on South Sudan Midwifery course syllabus.
•Guide the midwifery students in connecting the classroom material and its real-life application through accommodating varied learning styles and paces of clinical students.
•Coordinate student rotations or site visits and help students understand their duties in different settings by ensuring that the clinical lessons tie in with classroom lessons that have already been completed so that students have the necessary knowledge base for their laboratory or clinic lesson.
•Supervise the students during site visits and rotations, providing guidance as the students work with staff.
•Conduct formal student performance evaluations, as well as occasionally providing informal feedback to students regarding the effectiveness of their actions and decisions and for information about how they can improve.
•Serve as liaison between the institute and the teaching hospital (clinical setting) in matters pertaining to the students’ clinical practice.
•Provide mentoring and coaching of students within and outside the formal evaluation and instruction arenas.
•Act as a role models for the type of behavior and mindset that is expected of professionals in the clinical area
•Regularly communicate with midwifery students, the program manager, and often with the corresponding classroom instructors on course objectives and expectations and individual performance.
•Adhere to specific policies and procedures regarding course instruction, student evaluation and other duties.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications:

•A recognized professional midwifery qualification
•A minimum of three years recent experience within a relevant training environment
•Excellent communication and presentation skills
•Excellent English language skills – both oral and written
•Ability to use the clinical supervision process effectively
•Ability to identify and use opportunities for self-development
•Ability to use I.T. skills, including power point
