JOB SUMMARY
The primary responsibility of the General Surgeon is to implement surgical services in Raja Hospital. These include surgical inpatient and out-patient services.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/SCOPE OF WORK:

•Implement medical and surgical services according to Ministry of Health, Government of South Sudan accepted standards

•Organize hospital activities including consultation, pharmacy, inpatient management and operating room activities.

•Utilize and improve on standardized data collection tools and train staff on accurate data collection

•Collect and analyze surgical service data to adjust project objectives and implementation process

•Conduct daily rounds of surgical patients and plan discharges

•Analyze training needs and institute training for staff members as required, with an emphasis on hands-on training

•Assist in hiring of necessary staff members

•Work with Medical Director to implement standardized internal reporting

•Work with logistics and pharmacy to ensure regular and adequate drug and surgical supplies in order to avoid stock-outs

•Collaborate with recognized health authorities, health agencies, donors and other stakeholders to utilize standardized reporting practices and information sharing

•Actively participate in coordination meetings and other relevant meetings

•Perform any other relevant duties as requested by the Medical Director

Job Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS
•Medical degree and post graduate degree in General Surgery

•Minimum of five years of experience required

•Experience in overseas programs – including management experience

•Excellent communications skills, both oral and written English; Arabic skills a plus

•Experience in effectively dealing with international and headquarters staff, as well as donor agencies, government officials, and other NGOs; the ability to work with a broad spectrum of people

•Resilient leader, able to inspire confidence in local and ex-pat staff in stressful situations

•Innovative and adaptable to the limitations of a field hospital

•Previous surgical experience in a developing country


•Excellent communications skills, both oral and written English; Arabic skills a plus
