We are working with an associate recruitment company who has offices in New Zealand. They are currently seeking Carpet Fitters to work on earthquake reconstruction projects in Christchurch, New Zealand.
The work will be across commercial and residential construction projects. The projects will be construction projects connected with the rebuild of Christchurch city following the earthquake last year. The rebuild of Christchurch city is scheduled to offer employment opportunities for the next 8 to 10 years.
These positions are offered initially on a 6 month contract. Thereafter new contracts can be offered and if you wish to stay in New Zealand, the end client will offer sponsorship.
You will be competent in reading and understanding Floor plans, measurements, Installation Work Orders (Job Sheets) and various documentation associated with installations.
You will be competent in assessing various job sites, assessing floor preparation, planning and check measuring before starting the installation.
You will be able to neatly install Smoothedge Carpet gripper to both wood floors and concrete floors to all perimeters of rooms.
You will be able to neatly install underlay and taping or stapling of underlay joins.
You will be competent in cutting and shaping carpet to approximate room sizes in accordance with plans and carefully placing in rooms in readiness for installation.
You will have experience of heat bond joining of carpet seams and joins in accordance with floor plans and layout.
You will be able to stretch carpet to all rooms ensuring it is "taut" in all directions. This is done using a combination of Knee kicker and Power stretcher.
You will be able to neatly trim and tuck carpet into smoothedge gripper to all perimeters
You will be able to fit various door bars and trims as required.
You will be responsible for cleaning up and vacuuming on completion.
You will be responsible for general communication with various including: clients, project managers, supervisors, other installers, installation scheduler, Manager, Directors and sales staff.
You will be able to carry out all work in accordance with Flooring Industry standards.
You should be able to demonstrate experience in installing carpet tiles, installing Commercial carpet by direct stick or double bond method, uplifting of existing carpet, preparing various substrates.
Finally, you will have a good understanding and following various company policies and procedures including Health & Safety requirements.
Candidates other than from New Zealand must be available to travel on a working holiday visa and have a minimum of 6 months unexpired time on an existing working holiday visa or alternatively able to gain a working holiday visa to New Zealand.
If successful, candidates will have to pay their own costs of getting across to New Zealand i.e. visa £85, flights approx. £800, possibly cheaper and also pay for their own accommodation.
The end client will assist candidates secure temporary accommodation for the first few weeks after they arrive and will also assist getting bank accounts and tax numbers set up.
