Main Duties and Responsibilities
Person centred autism specific practice
The Speech and Language Therapist will
 Promote and ethos which sees communication as central to the culture of
the organization by linking a communication informed approach to all areas of the
curriculum including positive behaviour support.
 work directly with their caseload of children and young people with AEI
during assessment, individualised target setting, monitoring and review.
Observations of the children and young people will form the basis for the
development of individual communication and educational strategies
 promote the philosophy of Autism Initiatives, whereby communication is
viewed as central to the culture of the organisation.
 develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of the working file and
supporting tools such as the ‘5 point star framework’ ensuring that details
collated are of value and then utilised to support and develop a child's/young
person's progress
 understand and use a Person-Centred approach, in conjunction with the ethos
of the educational settings they work in, to service delivery
 maintain confidentiality for all areas of the organisation, its staff and its
The Speech and Language Therapist will:
 attend all meetings which contribute to the quality of the autism specific
support provided
 have a clear understanding of the Mental Capacity Act and the Education Act
 record and report in line with OSSME's documentation and to take part in the
review of these recording procedures as required. Recording and reporting
must be of a high quality, jargon free and completed within a time frame.
These will include:
 Assessment reports
 Person Centred Support and Development Plans
 Evidence of outcomes and impact
 Complete a yearly impact report for each young person named in their
caseload, which will be accessible to the OSSME Head, OSSME Deputy and
the National Director.

Job Requirements:

BSc (Hons) speech and language therapy
Knowledge and Experience
• A relevant and recognised qualification in SpeechTherapy
• Previous experience of working with children who have a diagnosis of autism
• Previous experience of carrying out detailed SPL Therapy assessments
• Research experience and practice
• Teaching and training experience
