Medical – Technologist/ Laboratory Scientist/Scientist: Cytogenetics/FISH

Purpose of Positon: Interpretation and implementation of established procedures to prepare appropriate specimens for both cytogenetic and FISH analysis, performing of that analysis, and preparation and description of the results. Key Responsibilities: Technical procedures start to end following correct SOPs. Handling, preparation and processing of various Cytogenetic and FISH specimens. Knowledge of appropriate culture techniques, harvesting techniques and chromosome banding and staining techniques. Maintenance and use of Automatic Scanning and Capturing Metasystems System and analysis of all Cytogenetic and FISH sample types. Reading scientific literature and writing reports. Keeping up to date with new techniques, and literature. Assisting/assuring that patients results are sent out within laboratory TAT. Applicants must have a South African ID or a valid South African work permit. Requirements: Registered with the HPCSA is the qualifying criteria Must hold a B.Tech/ND in Laboratory/Medical Technology or related scientific disciplines 1-2 years working experience in the Cytogenetic/FISH laboratory Strong knowledge and proven experience in Cytogenetics and FISH Certification/training in good clinical laboratory practice (GCLP) and basic health and safety. Knowledge of medical ethical guidelines Experience in MS Office Must be able to work in a team Excellent communication skills and punctuality Accuracy in the laboratory is of great importance
