Job Description
Job Title: Certified Surgical Technician Job Specialty: Surgical Technology Job Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days (7 am – 3 pm), Some weekends Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week Experience: No experience required, some preferred License: Not specified Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Must-Have: - Graduate from an accredited school of surgical technology with one year of perioperative experience, or equivalent training as a Surgical Technician in the Armed Forces with five years of experience preferred. - Ability to fully utilize electronic record systems, equipment, and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position. - Good interpersonal skills. Job Description: - Utilize the nursing process in the provision of direct patient care. Responsible and accountable for prescribing, delegating, and coordinating all care provided to assigned patients. - Diagnose and treat human responses to actual and potential health problems through services like case finding, health teaching, health counseling, and provision of care supportive or restorative of life and well-being. - Supervise patient care provided by licensed practical nurses, registered nurses on permit, nursing attendants, technicians, and supplemental staff. - Assess the immediate and continuing care needs of the patient/significant other. - Develop comprehensive and current plans of care, including physical needs, patient teaching, discharge planning, and psychosocial/spiritual needs. - Provide direct patient care based on assessed needs and the medical regimen. Oversee and ensure the provision of all aspects of care for the patient and supervise the care provided by other nursing personnel as defined in the scope of practice. - Observe, evaluate, document, and communicate to relevant team members the patient's response to illness and/or therapeutic modalities. Ensure timely reassessment of patient responses to treatment and significant changes in patient condition and/or diagnosis. - Coordinate the overall plan of care to ensure implementation of nursing interventions and consistency with the medical regimen. - Establish priorities for care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and initiate follow-up to ensure timely provision of patient care and therapeutic modalities. - Ensure the plan of care integrates age-specific care needs as defined in the unit scope of care. - Accept responsibility and accountability for nursing interventions and outcomes based on professional clinical judgments. - Participate in quality improvement activities related to patient care delivery and the development of nursing/hospital standards. - Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, manage stressful situations appropriately, and facilitate interpersonal relationships with other disciplines. - Participate in the orientation of nursing staff and assume charge responsibilities as delegated by the Nurse/Manager designee. - Ensure appropriate coverage of all patients by assisting and relieving co-workers, and working on other units as assigned. - Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for patients, significant others, and staff. - Serve as a clinical resource for student nurses. - Participate in meetings, committees, conferences, and educational programs. - Participate in research and pilot projects supported by the Nursing Department. - Demonstrate responsibility for continuing professional growth and education, including attending staff development and continuing education programs, pursuing baccalaureate/graduate degrees in nursing, and obtaining appropriate professional certifications. - Participate in appropriate professional and community organizations.
