Job Description
Title: STEP Job Specialist Supervisor: STEP Coordinator Status: Full-Time JOB SUMMARY At the direction of and in collaboration with the Director of Community Support Services and STEP Coordinator carries the responsibility to assist clients with workforce development. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS & ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS Must have a BA or BSW with prior case management experience. Experience in domestic violence preferred, workforce development or training experience helpful. Knowledge and sensitivity to issues of domestic violence, homelessness and a commitment to women's empowerment and the eradication of racism. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Excellent verbal, written, and public speaking skills. Knowledge of computer programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook). Bilingual in Spanish. Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES Provides Director of Community Support Services and STEP Coordinator with information on potential problems and assists in the development of solutions and/or innovative approaches to problems. Exhibits sensitivity and concern when interacting with clients. Responsible for helping to create an empowering and safe training environment for clients. Provides and maintains accurate client records and reports. SPECIFIC DUTIES Responsible for assisting in the development and use of workshop curricula focusing on job skills development and placement, utilizing community and electronic resources. Responsible for assisting in regularly scheduled workshops to meet the needs of clients in YWCA programs, to enhance workforce development and financial literacy skills. Responsible for assisting in facilitating workshops utilizing Economic Empowerment Curriculum. Responsible for assistance in client job placement with Union County College and other Union County workforce development programs. Responsible for identifying and developing internship/employment training possibilities throughout Union County and nearby vicinity. Develop and implement referral and job "matching" system to connect STEP clients with prospective employers. Provide initial job coaching support to clients entering job or internship opportunities as requested. Assist with residential and non-residential programs in client assessment for workforce readiness and skills assessment. Responsible for facilitating internal job fairs and hiring events. Network at local networking events. Required to attend job fairs to create partnerships with employers and receive updates about current job openings Responsible for outreach to clients to inform about STEP program and encourage participation. Follow up as needed. Refers clients to appropriate community resources for workplace related services not covered by YWCA. Responsible for following up with clients who have missed workshops and documenting contacts in the case record. Documents and maintains case records for individual clients, completes service schedules, and maintains other records as needed. Maintains a system of accountability to ensure proper statistical information gathering and analysis. Notifies Director of Community Support Services and STEP Coordinator when unusual situations, irregularities, accidents, or illnesses occur. Maintains and updates referrals and relationships with agency's contacts. Attend staff and team meetings as scheduled. Participate in YWCA events and activities. Other duties and responsibilities as needed and directed by the Director of Community Support Services/STEP Coordinator. All positions within the shelter will be trained for answering the hotline, and for coverage of backup shifts.
