Software Asset Management Engineer

Responsibilities : Software Inventory and Tracking : - Establish and maintain an accurate and up-to-date inventory of all software assets (on-premise, SaaS, cloud-based). - Utilize SAM tools and processes to discover, track, and reconcile software installations and usage. - Implement and manage software recognition rules and normalization processes within SAM tools. License Management and Compliance : - Understand and interpret complex software licensing agreements from various vendors (e.g, Microsoft, Adobe, Oracle). - Ensure compliance with software license terms and conditions to avoid legal and financial risks. - Manage software entitlements, track license consumption, and optimize license utilization. - Conduct regular license reconciliations and identify potential compliance gaps or over-licensing. Cost Optimization : - Identify opportunities for cost savings through license optimization, reclamation, and strategic procurement. - Analyze software usage patterns to recommend appropriate licensing models and quantities. - Participate in software procurement processes to ensure cost-effective acquisitions. SAM Tool Administration and Maintenance : - Administer and maintain the organization's SAM tools, ensuring data accuracy and system functionality. - Configure and customize SAM tools to meet specific organizational requirements. - Develop and maintain SAM tool documentation and user guides. Stakeholder Collaboration : - Collaborate with IT, procurement, legal, and business units to implement and enforce SAM policies and procedures. - Provide guidance and support to end-users on software licensing and usage. - Communicate SAM-related information and reports to relevant stakeholders. Reporting and Analysis : - Generate regular and ad-hoc reports on software inventory, license compliance, and cost savings. - Analyze SAM data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement. - Develop and present SAM-related metrics and KPIs. Process Improvement : - Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of SAM processes and procedures. - Stay updated on industry best practices and evolving software licensing models. Audit Support : - Support internal and external software audits by providing accurate data and documentation. - Assist in the remediation of audit findings. Required Skills : - Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field. - 4 years of dedicated experience in Software Asset Management (SAM). - Strong understanding of software licensing models (per user, per device, core-based, etc.) for various vendors. - Hands-on experience with at least one industry-leading SAM tool (e.g, ServiceNow SAM Pro, Flexera One, Snow Software, Aspera). - Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a strong attention to detail. - Proficiency in data analysis and reporting using tools like Excel or SAM tool reporting functionalities. - Strong understanding of IT infrastructure and software deployment methodologies. - Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills. - Ability to interpret legal and contractual terms related to software licensing. - Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Preferred Skills : - ITIL certification with a focus on IT Asset Management. - Experience with cloud-based software asset management (SaaS, IaaS, PaaS). - Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g, PowerShell, Python) for automation tasks. - Experience with database querying (SQL). - Familiarity with IT procurement processes (ref:hirist.tech)
