We’re looking for a Peripatetic Chef to bring creativity, consistency and a sprinkle of culinary magic to our care homes across the Somerset region. This role isn’t about working in just one kitchen it’s about bringing fresh energy, leadership, and high standards to several, supporting teams and uplifting the dining experience for our residents wherever you go. About the Role: This is a hands-on, heart-led role where you’ll be a key player in our commitment to serving meals that are as nourishing as they are enjoyable. You’ll lead by example, preparing high-quality meals, supporting kitchen teams, sharing knowledge, and helping to embed excellence across every home you step into. Whether you’re stepping in to cover annual leave, mentoring a new kitchen team, or raising the bar in meal presentation – your work will always centre around people: our residents, your colleagues, and the communities we serve. What You’ll Be Doing: Create exceptional meals that meet nutritional needs while offering taste, variety, and visual appeal. Support multiple homes in the Somerset area, bringing energy and leadership to kitchens that need your skill. Mentor and guide kitchen staff, helping build capable, confident teams that uphold the highest standards of hygiene and presentation. Design and cost menus in partnership with local teams, ensuring every home offers a diverse, appealing and compliant menu. Deliver training in food hygiene to care staff and ensure safe, consistent practices are followed. Keep everything in order – from stock control to kitchen paperwork and food safety records. About You: You’re more than a great cook – you’re a kitchen leader. You bring positivity, reliability, and a calm head to any challenge, and you know that food isn’t just fuel – it’s a daily joy, a moment of dignity, and a vital part of someone’s care. You’ll also need: City & Guilds 706 1 & 2 or equivalent (or be working towards it). Experience supervising a team or managing a kitchen. A Basic Food Hygiene Certificate. Strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. A full driving licence and willingness to travel between homes in the Somerset region. Experience working in a care environment is welcome, but not essential – if you understand how to adapt your cooking for individual needs and thrive in a people-focused role, we’ll support you to grow the rest.
