Job Description
Commercial Counsel Provides strategic legal support across business units, focusing on commercial contracts and in-country legal matters. Balances legal risk management with enabling business objectives, ensuring compliance with local laws and global standards. Collaborates with cross-functional teams and external counsel to deliver practical, business-oriented legal solutions. Activities: Draft, review, and negotiate a high volume of stand-alone commercial contracts with clients across various business units of the company. Provide legal support for commercial transactions, offering strategic guidance to business units in the preparation and execution of legal agreements, with a focus on risk mitigation. Actively participate as an embedded member of business teams, contributing to strategy development and taking part in key decision-making. Apply sound legal judgment, effective communication skills, and a solution-oriented mindset to support agile decision-making in dynamic environments. Continuously monitor legal and regulatory developments in administrative, labor, and commercial law, proactively advising business leaders on potential impacts. Deliver legal advice in compliance with local laws and regulations, aligned with global legal policies and standards. Identify legal risks and collaborate with legal subject matter experts and colleagues across the global legal function to address them effectively. Build and maintain strong relationships with internal business clients and external counterparts through regular communication and collaborative problem-solving. Engage with cross-functional teams and matrix partners (e.g., Regulatory, Quality, Operations, Procurement, Communications) to drive key initiatives and clearly communicate complex legal information. Collaborate with Corporate, Regulatory, and Compliance teams to advise on regional corporate matters and ensure internal policies and standard operating procedures are current and fit-for-purpose. Oversee external legal counsel on a limited and efficient basis, ensuring cost control and service quality. Maintain accurate and well-organized corporate records for the legal entities under your responsibility, ensuring compliance with local corporate governance requirements. Qualifications & Skills Law degree Minimum 5 years of relevant legal experience, ideally combining top-tier law firm training with in-house counsel experience in a multinational environment. Industry experience in food, biotechnology, or life sciences is a plus. Full professional fluency in English (spoken and written). Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with internal teams, clients, and third parties. Demonstrated sound judgment, discretion, and a proactive, collaborative approach. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work cross-functionally across diverse client groups. Comfortable working in a hybrid model, balancing remote work with in-person collaboration as needed. Demonstrated knowledge of the foundational principles of Administrative and Labor Law, along with up-to-date awareness of emerging regulatory developments and trends within the Mexican national legal landscape.
