Job Description
Key Responsibilities Effective leadership and team management: Provide direction, support, and supervision to nursing staff within the ICU. Inspire and foster a collaborative team environment to achieve unit goals. Oversee staff competency, training, and professional development. Ensure effective communication and promote a culture of continuous improvement. Clinical excellence and patient care: Function as the clinical expert and support evidence-based practices. Maintain quality patient care aligned with hospital standards and clinical governance. Monitor and evaluate nursing quality indicators and clinical outcomes. Identify and mitigate clinical and safety risks through corrective action and regular reviews. Operational effectiveness: Ensure adherence to infection prevention and control protocols. Implement and monitor quality improvement initiatives. Manage equipment and ensure operational readiness to provide safe patient care. Conduct clinical audits and care rounds to maintain and elevate standards of care. Stakeholder engagement and relationship building: Build and maintain effective relationships with doctors, patients, and other stakeholders. Address and resolve patient concerns to ensure satisfaction. Promote unit-specific best practices and contribute to hospital-wide initiatives. Participate in hospital marketing and community outreach efforts. Financial and governance responsibilities: Assist in the development and management of the units budget. Manage resources effectively, ensuring cost containment and stock control. Maintain compliance with labour legislation and supply chain management standards. Ensure sound governance, ethical conduct, and risk management within the unit. Requirements Registered with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse Qualification in Critical Care Nursing Degree or Diploma in Nursing Minimum of 5 years experience in an ICU environment Previous Unit Management experience (essential) Strong understanding of healthcare governance and clinical risk management Proficient in MS Office and hospital systems Competencies Leadership and team coordination Problem-solving and clinical judgment Attention to detail Quality orientation and resilience Verbal and written communication Ethical behaviour and emotional intelligence Customer responsiveness Organisational awareness Technical and professional knowledge
