About The Role As a Mechanical Estimator, you will play a crucial role in our pre-construction phase, primarily focusing on ICI mechanical systems for projects valued between $500,000 and $10 million, with a strong emphasis on design-build opportunities. You will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for mechanical scopes, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection. This involves detailed quantity take-offs, soliciting quotes from subcontractors and suppliers, analyzing specifications and drawings (often conceptual), and developing comprehensive cost proposals. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to understand project requirements, identify cost-saving opportunities, and provide value engineering suggestions. Your expertise will be vital in ensuring the profitability and success of our design-build ventures from the earliest stages. What You Need Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Mechanical Estimator in the ICI construction sector in Canada, with a proven track record on projects ranging from $500K - $10M. Design-Build Acumen: Strong experience and understanding of the design-build project delivery method, including the ability to estimate from conceptual drawings and specifications. Technical Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, hydronics, and fire protection, and an understanding of relevant building codes and industry standards. Software Proficiency: Proficient in estimating software (e.g., Accubid, Trimble AutoBid, etc.), Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook). Analytical Skills: Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy in quantity take-offs and cost analysis. Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of preparing clear, concise, and persuasive proposals and interacting effectively with internal teams, clients, and subcontractors. Education: A degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred. Relevant trade experience combined with estimating experience will also be considered. Local Market Knowledge: Familiarity with the GTA construction market, including local suppliers, subcontractors, and pricing trends.
