Job Description

Medical Assistant (MA) plays an essential role on the Boundless Health, Inc. nursing team. The Medical Assistant reports to the Registered Nurse and will support the psychiatric team. The MA provides all patient care services as outlined in medical protocols under the supervision of the Registered Nurse or their designee. The MA is responsible for understanding the use of maintenance of and sanitization of medical equipment. In addition, the MA will assist health care providers with routine medical procedures. The MA functions following established policies and procedures within their scope of practice. Primary Responsibilities: • Escort patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the provider visit. • Actively manage the safety and sanitization of the clinical care areas before, during, and after patient care visits. • Clean and sanitize instruments. • Dispose of contaminated supplies, including sharps and supplies contaminated with blood and bodily fluids, following established safety protocols and procedures. • Accurately record patients’ medical history, reason-for-visit, medications, and vital statistics. • Reinforce providers’ instructions to patients. • Under the written direction of the provider, communicate with patients and/or caregivers via telephone and secure patient portals. • Perform general office duties, such as answering telephones • Schedule and coordinate appointments for individuals and contact the nurse if medical discretion and decision-making are necessary related to delaying, rescheduling, or canceling appointments. • Report any discrepancies, irregularities, and/or violations involving clinical care, administrative procedures, billing issues, or other Boundless Health protocols to the appropriate personnel. • Communicate effectively with all staff. • Uploads medical records. • Perform duties in compliance with HIPAA and all other legal standards. • Schedules interpreter. • Other duties as assigned. Required Education, Skills & Experience • Adult and Child CPR • Medical Assisting Certificate from an accredited school or program (i.e. hospital, community college, or an adult education certificate program) or must become certified within two years of employment. Preferred Education, Skills & Experience • Must have good attention to detail and the ability to function effectively under deadlines, changing priorities, and the ability to work in a team environment. • Strong customer service skills. • Proficient with Smart Care, Microsoft Office: Word, Excel & Outlook • Experience working with developmentally disabled individuals. • Proficient with Electronic Health Records. Special Skills & Requirements: ● Must be able to communicate in English – including spoken (either face-to-face or over the phone) and in writing ● Knowledge of common hazards and safety protocols to maintain a safe health environment. ● Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public. ● Must be detail-oriented and have competent literacy and writing, documentation, communication, and interpersonal abilities. ● Must have excellent attention to detail and extremely organized Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibility. Work Environment • Works in a well-lighted environment with comfortable surroundings • Duties may involve some occupational risk with exposure to chemicals, bodily fluids, and injury from sharp and delicate equipment. • Stressful at times due to staff or patient/family interactions and project deadlines. Physical Demands • Significant portions of daily assignments may involve the application of manual skills requiring hand-eye coordination, in combination with finger dexterity. • Standing, stooping, lifting, bending, and reaching. • Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs. • May be required to assist patients on and off examining tables. • May be required to assist patients who have a mobility impairment, including, but not limited to, pushing a wheelchair, assisting patients with crutches or braces, etc. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time in office position, and hours of work and days are as directed by the supervisor as job duties demand. Travel: No travel required.
