Job Description Job Description The Volunteer Engagement Specialist is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Fund Development. This position is responsible for designing and maintaining a robust calendar of volunteer activities, recruitment, stewardship and engagement of AFG’s very active volunteer base, including corporate volunteer group projects, responding to volunteer inquiries from the website, and interfacing with program directors to inform a meaningful set of short and long-term volunteer projects cross-departmentally and agency-wide. This important role oversees the implementation of policies and planning for the volunteer program, including goal-oriented recruitment, screening, orientation, training, stewardship and record keeping, for all volunteer initiatives on and off-site, including the annual fundraising event, the Role Model Celebration. Responsibilities Include: Volunteer Program Development Develop and maintain volunteer project descriptions, matching AFG program needs with volunteer groups and interested individuals. Plan, organize, recruit for and direct about 50 short and long-term volunteer engagement projects each year. Maintain ongoing communication with program directors and administrative departments to secure volunteers and project-specific resources as needed Manage the volunteer database used for tracking volunteers, service hours and reporting for oversight and reimbursement. Volunteer Project Logistic and Execution July-December : Assist with the annual Project Giving Tree program which provides holiday gifts to needy families and shelter residents. Duties include donor engagement, wish list coordination with program staff, gift collection, and distribution to program recipients, ensuring a seamless and joyful experience for donors and recipients alike. December-March : Develop and implement the volunteer staffing plan for the Role Model Celebration, including recruiting volunteers for all event-related roles, identifying and training volunteer leaders, and coordinating volunteer activities leading up to and through the night of the event. Act as liaison for AFG’s community partnership with Forgotten Harvest, including scheduling volunteers to assist with bi-monthly food distributions to the local community. Volunteer Engagement and Stewardship Provide a friendly, approachable and supportive presence to enhance volunteer experience and form strong relationships with corporate and organizational volunteer groups and individuals. Work with Director of Fund Development and Corporate Sponsorship and Events Manager to identify and recruit additional groups, corporations and individuals to offer meaningful and rewarding projects customized to the availability and skill sets of specific groups. Develop volunteer stewardship and recognition opportunities Marketing and Communications Create, maintain and update volunteer program materials, working with the marketing and communications team, including a quarterly volunteer e-newsletter with information on upcoming projects, recognition of individual and group volunteer accomplishments and other news related to volunteer engagement in AFG programs. Initiate communications with past volunteers and respond promptly to requests for information both internally and externally. In-Kind Donation Logistics and Supply-Chain Management Collaborate with program teams to identify priority needs and align in-kind donation efforts with organizational goals. Develop and implement strategies for soliciting, tracking, and acknowledging in-kind donations to support organizational programs and events. Maintain an accurate inventory of received donations, ensuring proper storage, distribution, and documentation. Coordinate logistics for donation drop-offs, pick-ups, and deliveries, working closely with internal teams and external partners. Demonstrated Abilities: Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, nonprofit management, business, or a related field or equivalent required 3-5 years of experience in volunteer services, community engagement or a related field required Nonprofit experience a plus Outstanding written and verbal communication skills Outgoing people-person with a strong project management background Proficient in Microsoft Office applications Familiarity with volunteer CRM platform(s) preferred Supply chain management or inventory management experience a plus
