Infrastructure Engineer

Infrastructure Engineer Reading (Hybrid – 1 day a week on site minimum) £50,000 Benefits Maxwell Bond have engaged with an exciting market-leader in their sector that’re looking for an Infrastructure Engineer to join their team. You’ll be responsible for configuring/maintaining internal apps, networks and systems and making sure that standards/maintenance procedures are efficient and up to date. What You’ll Be Doing We're looking for someone who loves getting stuck into all things infrastructure. In this role, you'll be leading the charge on projects, keeping systems running smoothly, and making sure the clients tech is solid from the ground up. Here's what your day-to-day might look like: Taking the lead on infrastructure projects from the early planning stages right through to delivery. Setting up and managing servers, networks, and storage, both in-house and externally. Keeping systems secure with things like endpoint protection and regular updates. Troubleshooting a wide range of issues across hardware, software, and networks getting things back up and running fast. Making sure everything’s up to date and performing well by running patches and system checks. Supporting users when problems come up, and always looking for ways to improve how the company do things. Keeping clear, up-to-date documentation (think diagrams, setups, and how-tos) so nothing gets lost in translation. We’re after someone who’s hands-on, switched-on, and ready to get involved. You’ll need to be comfortable juggling different tasks and working across a range of tech. You’ll need to have: The right to work in the UK (you may need to go through background checks). Experience in an IT support, Infrastructure or helpdesk role. A good head for solving problems and staying calm under pressure. Hands-on experience with Windows Server, Microsoft 365, and Linux (Ubuntu). A decent understanding of networking - things like VLANs, STP, and Cisco IOS. Some exposure to virtualisation or container tools like VMware, Hyper-V, or Docker. Familiarity with Microsoft Entra (Azure AD) and Intune. Some knowledge of databases like SQL Server Great communication skills and the ability to stay on top of multiple things at once. It’s a bonus if you also have an interest in cybersecurity—especially if you know your way around ISO 27001 or Zero Trust.
