Position: European IP Counsel We have an exciting opportunity for a European IP Counsel to join our Specialty Diagnostics Group’s (SDG) IP team supporting one or more European-based Divisions within the Group. As European IP Counsel, you will lead strategic patent portfolio development, identify and manage patent opportunities and risks, and provide IP training and support at multiple European SDG sites. You will also support European oppositions as needed. This role involves collaboration with legal, R&D, and business teams. Work arrangement This role is fully remote, allowing you to work from anywhere in Europe. Some international travel (up to 10% annually) may be required, including overnight stays. European qualified patent attorneys are encouraged to apply. About SDG Our Specialty Diagnostics Group (SDG) focuses on in vitro diagnostics, including test kits, reagents, culture media, instruments, and related products, serving healthcare, clinical, pharmaceutical, and industrial labs worldwide. Key responsibilities Conduct competitive analysis and IP landscaping, providing actionable advice on IP risks and mitigation. Advise on transactions, disputes, oppositions, and risks, collaborating with internal teams to adapt strategies. Improve existing processes and develop new ones within the IP department. Coordinate with organizational and geographic teams, including managing outside counsel. Support Thermo Fisher’s mission through various duties as assigned. Candidate requirements UK or European qualified patent attorney with at least 5 years of experience in patent prosecution, preferably in life sciences or diagnostics; opposition experience is a plus. Experience with Freedom to Operate analyses and risk mitigation activities. Experience handling contracts of moderate complexity. Fluent in English; additional European languages are a plus.
