Systems Engineer

Position: Junior Systems EngineerLocation: Toronto, ON (Hybrid)Job Type: Full-time contract About the Role:We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join our Technology team. You'll play a key role in supporting and maintaining Unix/Linux environments while driving automation and operational excellence in a hybrid DevOps setting. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about infrastructure-as-code, system automation, and supporting modern application architectures in an Agile environment.Department: Systems OperationsReports To: Manager, Systems OperationsLevel: Individual ContributorKey Responsibilities:Operational Support & Maintenance (90%)- Automate infrastructure builds, provisioning, and patching using orchestration/configuration tools- Develop and manage scripts and tools to standardize and automate operational tasks- Implement and automate security controls and compliance validation- Administer and support core system software: web servers, app servers, middleware components- Maintain and update operational runbooks and procedural documentation- Participate in 24/7 on-call support rotation- Deploy and manage monitoring/logging tools for both infrastructure and applicationsProject Involvement & Internal Improvements (10%)- Collaborate with application development teams to support CI/CD pipelines in Agile environments- Assist developers in troubleshooting and performance tuning- Contribute to internal initiatives to automate and optimize manual tasks and workflowsQualifications:Education & Experience- Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience- Experience in Agile and DevOps-centric environments- Previous participation in a 24/7 rotating on-call scheduleTechnical Skills:- Strong understanding of DevOps principles and automation practices- Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix systems, networking, and virtualization- Familiarity with Atlassian Suite (JIRA, Confluence)- Experience working in microservices-based architecturesHands-on experience with:- Cloud Platforms - Azure (preferred), including APIM, Event Grid, Azure Monitor- DevOps Tools - Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins, Vault, Nexus- Monitoring/Logging - New Relic or similar solutions- Scripting - ksh, bash- Containers - Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Cloud FoundrySoft Skills:- Excellent communicator with strong verbal and written skills- Self-starter with the ability to thrive in complex technical environments- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills- Collaborative and team-oriented mindset- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision under tight deadlinesPlease send your resume in Word format to Emily Heughan at emily.heughan@quantum-qtr.com.REFER A PERM HIRE AND EARN $1,000!
