Position: European IP Counsel We have an exciting opportunity for a European IP Counsel to join our Specialty Diagnostics Group’s (SDG) IP team, supporting one or more European-based Divisions within the Group. As European IP Counsel, you will lead strategic patent portfolio development, manage patent opportunities and risks, provide IP training, and support European oppositions. You will collaborate closely with legal, R&D, and business teams across multiple European SDG sites. Work arrangement This role can be fully remote, working from anywhere in Europe. Some international travel (up to 10% annually, including overnight stays) may be required. European qualified patent attorneys are encouraged to apply. About our organization This position is within our SDG, which focuses on in vitro diagnostics, including test kits, reagents, culture media, instruments, and related products, serving healthcare, clinical, pharmaceutical, and industrial laboratories worldwide. Key responsibilities Conduct competitive analysis and IP landscaping, providing advice on IP risks and mitigation strategies. Advise on transactions, disputes, oppositions, and collaborate with internal teams to adapt strategies. Improve existing processes and develop new ones in collaboration with internal teams. Manage relationships with outside counsel and work across organizational and geographic boundaries. Support Thermo Fisher’s Mission and the IP department with other duties as assigned. Candidate requirements UK or European qualified patent attorney with at least 5 years’ experience in patent preparation and prosecution in Europe, focused on life sciences or diagnostics. Opposition experience is a plus. Experience in Freedom to Operate analyses and risk mitigation activities. Experience with contracts of moderate complexity. Fluent in English; additional European languages preferred. Strong communication skills, adaptability, and strategic thinking. Proactive, collaborative, and solution-oriented attitude.
