Position: European IP Counsel We have an exciting opportunity for a European IP Counsel to join our Specialty Diagnostics Group’s (SDG) IP team, supporting one or more European-based divisions within the group. As European IP Counsel, you will lead strategic patent portfolio development, identify and manage patent opportunities and risks in a dynamic environment, and provide IP training and support across multiple European SDG sites. You will also support European oppositions as needed and collaborate closely with legal, R&D, and business teams. Work Arrangement This role is offered as a fully remote position, allowing you to work from anywhere in Europe. Some international travel (up to 10% annually, including overnight stays) may be required. European-qualified patent attorneys at law firms are encouraged to apply. About our Organization This role is within our SDG, which has over 40 locations worldwide. SDG focuses on in vitro diagnostics, including test kits, reagents, culture media, instruments, and related products for healthcare, clinical, pharmaceutical, and industrial labs. Key Responsibilities Conduct competitive analysis and IP landscaping, providing pragmatic advice on IP risks and mitigation strategies Advise on transactions, disputes, oppositions, risks, and outcomes, collaborating with internal teams to adapt strategies Improve existing processes and lead new process development Manage outside counsel and work across organizational and geographic boundaries Perform other duties supporting Thermo Fisher’s Mission and IP department Candidate Profile UK or European qualified patent attorney with ≥5 years’ experience in patent prosecution in the life sciences or diagnostics sector; opposition experience is a plus Experience with Freedom to Operate analyses and risk mitigation activities Experience with contracts of moderate complexity Fluent in English; multilingual skills in European languages preferred Strong communication skills, adaptable to diverse audiences Proactive, collaborative, and solution-oriented mindset What We Offer Career growth within a large, expanding global employer Competitive salary and annual bonus Comprehensive benefits package (varies by country) About Us Our Mission is to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer.
