Job Description
Smallwood Trust exists to enable women to be financially resilient and to reduce gendered poverty. Since 2016, we’ve awarded over £26 million in grants, supporting over 150,000 women across the UK through direct funding, community partnerships, and long-term systems change. We are now seeking a new Chair to lead our Board through the next chapter of our strategic journey. This is a significant opportunity to support a focused, well-run organisation tackling one of the most urgent and persistent forms of inequality in the UK. The Chair will provide inclusive and effective leadership to the Board, ensuring good governance, supporting the Chief Executive, and guiding strategic direction. The role will play an important part in maintaining momentum, strengthening oversight, and ensuring our work continues to evolve in response to the needs of the women we serve. We are open to different leadership models and would welcome candidates who are interested in a Chair and Deputy Chair arrangement, or a Co-Chair model. What matters most is a collaborative approach to board leadership and a commitment to inclusive, shared governance. We are particularly keen to hear from individuals who bring: Excellent knowledge and understanding of governance, business models, finance, funding and charity regulation compliance Experience chairing boards or senior-level committees, with the ability to facilitate inclusive, purposeful meetings and ensure effective decision-making Strategic foresight and future-thinking skills, with the ability to anticipate change, navigate uncertainty, and shape long-term direction A collaborative and emotionally intelligent leadership style, grounded in integrity, empathy and a values-driven approach A deep commitment to gender equity and an understanding of the drivers and consequences of gendered poverty The capacity and availability to engage fully with the responsibilities of the role To find out more information on the role including how to apply, please view the dedicated microsite via the apply button.
