Legal Advisor

We are seeking a highly experienced and qualified Legal Advisor to join a prominent group of companies specializing in non-banking financial services . This role is based in Cape Town . About the Group: The group encompasses a diverse range of entities, including various financial services providers, a retirement fund administrator, a collective investment scheme management company, a linked long-term insurer, and a treasury outsource company . Key Responsibilities: As a Legal Advisor, you will be responsible for: Providing legal support to various group companies and business units, such as wealth management, asset management, collective investment scheme management, linked long-term insurance, treasury solutions, and marketing . Offering legal support to the Compliance department . Advising on legal considerations for new business ventures and assisting with their legal implementation . Providing advice on compliance with relevant legislation . Proactively advising businesses on relevant legal developments . Delivering opinions on legal matters pertinent to the business . Drafting and vetting contracts, including those related to financial services and general commercial matters . Drafting and vetting client documentation and correspondence . Liaising with external legal service providers . Representing group companies in negotiations of contractual provisions with external suppliers . Representing the group at ASISA (Association for Savings & Investment South Africa) as needed, and contributing to commentary on proposed regulatory changes on behalf of the group or directly to regulatory bodies . Qualifications and Experience: LLB degree; admitted as an attorney of the High Court . At least 8 years of post-qualification legal experience . A minimum of 6 years of experience as a legal advisor within non-banking financial services . Computer Competency Requirements: Proficiency in Outlook packages, Microsoft Word, Adobe, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Teams . Competencies and Personal Characteristics: We are looking for a candidate with: Expertise in non-banking financial services law and general commercial law . Excellent writing and contract drafting skills . Strong accountability and business insight . Excellent communication, problem-solving, and negotiation skills . High ethical behavior . Good time management . The ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
