Job Description

Job Title: CT Tech Profession: CT Tech Specialty: Imaging Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year in Radiology License: ARRT Radiography, ARRT Computed Tomography Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) Must-Have: Must exhibit excellent communication skills. Candidate must be able to explain or give directions to maintain goodwill and obtain cooperation with all contacts. Must be able to function independently and under pressure while still actively participating in a team environment. Position requires excellent customer service skills. Must be able to prioritize appropriately. Must be detail-oriented and have the capacity to effectively multitask throughout the work shift. Must possess the ability to function independently yet productively as a cooperative team member. Competent in all aspects of CT, patient positioning, exposure factors, and radiation protection. Must have an understanding of anatomy and pathology as they affect the quality of a procedure. Description: Must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs. Must be dependable, accountable, and cooperative. Assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to patients by performing all exams according to department procedures. Has the knowledge and ability to obtain a quality diagnostic study safely. Responsible for performing a variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative. Able to independently perform job functions. Sets up equipment to provide imaging services and positions patients for procedures. Verifies proper clinician orders for procedures. Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data, and assesses for contraindicating conditions. Follows established procedures for the administration of contrast media to ensure patient safety. Ensures all studies have proper patient identification and right and left markers utilized appropriately. Reviews CT/radiographic images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients. Responds to emergency situations and assists in maintaining life support equipment. Assists other technologists in all modalities when needed. Observes patient conditions and evaluates situations for physician intervention as necessary. Verifies correct patient identity using two unique identifiers before performing any procedure. Ensures patient privacy and comfort, maintaining dignity throughout the exam. Demonstrates competence in selecting appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies, and techniques based on patient age. Organizes schedule and time to accomplish required activities within designated time frames. Follows physician's instructions when assisting with procedures and exams. Demonstrates proficiency with loading and operating power injection. Uses critical thinking skills and engages with patients and families. Asks clarifying questions and seeks clarification on ambiguous orders. Understands and documents the pre-procedural verification and Time Out process when appropriate. Preps the patient for the procedure and submits documentation as required. Demonstrates and understands sterile technique and maintains competency with venipuncture. Adjusts techniques to ensure the lowest possible dose of ionizing radiation while maintaining image quality. Reports any equipment malfunctions promptly for timely corrections. Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment following infection control policies. Explains the purpose and nature of exams to patients clearly to minimize anxiety. Ensures all patient questions and concerns are addressed satisfactorily and notifies physician when unable to do so. Participates in the orientation and training of departmental employees. Provides patients with preparatory instructions and explains procedures. Maintains concise, legible documentation using precise terminology. Completes mandatory departmental and hospital-wide education without prompting. Produces acceptable images consistently, as evidenced by feedback and quality audits. Ensures equipment is operational prior to each use, checking for calibration and deficiencies. Sends studies to PACS immediately after completion and manages the logging process appropriately. Restocks linens and supplies and maintains department cleanliness. Transports patients and assists them on and off procedure tables. Performs patient charging activities on the day services are rendered. Applies shielding and immobilization devices as needed. Willingly lends knowledge and assistance to others as time permits. Maintains individual productivity rates consistent with team members. Keeps supervisors informed of all responsibilities and notifies them of any issues promptly. Maintains Joint Commission and regulatory agency standards. Takes on additional duties as assigned.
