Job Description

The Senior Electrical Engineer will be responsible for completing physical design on various substation projects. The Senior Electrical Engineer will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting electrical plans according to budget constraints, design factors and client needs. Job Functions: Prepare/create construction documents for installation of new or modification of existing substations including bill of materials, yard layouts, plans, sections, and electrical details. Select, recommend, and prepare preliminary designs. Perform calculations such as lightning, grounding, and conduit fill. Create/modify technical specifications for major equipment, such as power transformers, power circuit breakers, control houses, and other related materials. Provide engineering, construction, and testing & commissioning support for projects. Review design drawings and specifications to ensure projects meet acceptable standards of operability, functionality, maintainability, reliability, durability, and safety. Create project scope descriptions and man-hour estimates with sufficient details to clearly define work and cost required. Apply field mark-ups of project as-built drawings. Assist project manager to develop scope of work and conceptual design. Communicate and coordinate project activities with project manager, client, and others as needed. Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to less experienced team members. Take personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of one's work. All other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. Substation physical layout, electrical clearances, rigid and strain bus design, ground grid design, surge and direct stroke protection, and raceway design. Familiarity with relevant codes and standards such as NEC, NESC, IEEE, NEMA, and ANSI. Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering may be substituted for 1 year experience. 5 years of electrical engineering experience, consulting preferred. Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Spanish and English. Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills. Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures. Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite) Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
