Job Description
DSJ Global are seeking a commercially astute and visionary Sustainable Procurement Lead (m/f/d) on a permanent basis for a global FMCG powerhouse based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. This is a strategic manager position within the Group Procurement function, and will drive sustainability across the entire value chain. This globally recognised consumer goods group operates in over 120 countries and is known for its innovation, scale, and commitment to responsible sourcing. The role spans multiple geographies, subsidiaries, and business units , with global spend categories in the billions of dollars . As part of the Procurement function, you will lead the development and execution of sustainability strategies across a diverse and complex procurement landscape. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the group's sustainability roadmap, engaging with senior stakeholders across Procurement, Supply, R&D, Finance, and ESG. This is not an end-to-end buying role, but a strategic procurement projects position focused on data, stakeholder engagement, and long-term transformation. Key Responsibilities: Lead the development and implementation of sustainable procurement strategies across Packaging (Plastics & Resins, including PET, PE, and PP ; Paper & Cardboard; Glass; Aluminium; Inks & Coatings etc.) and Raw Materials, including sustainable alternatives). Collaborate cross-functionally with Group Sustainability, R&D, Regulatory, and Legal to align sourcing strategies with corporate sustainability goals. Drive supplier engagement and data collection across environmental, social, and technical dimensions (e.g., life cycle analysis, traceability, ESG metrics). Develop and implement traceability frameworks and compliance programs aligned with evolving sustainability standards and reporting requirements. Lead a portfolio of sustainability projects, ensuring alignment with global targets and integration into procurement systems and processes. Act as a change agent within the procurement function, embedding sustainability into business practices and decision-making. Deliver regular progress updates to senior leadership, outlining road-maps and KPIs for carbon reduction and responsible sourcing. Support supplier capability building through training and collaborative initiatives to embed ESG standards across the value chain. Stay ahead of regulatory and market developments, sharing insights and delivering training to operational procurement teams. Expand sustainability initiatives across the wider supply chain, including Logistics & Distribution, Energy, Utilities, and Indirect Procurement. Qualifications: Proven experience in sustainable procurement, strategic sourcing, or ESG leadership within FMCG, agrifood, or manufacturing environments. Strong background in project procurement , ideally within the agrifood value chain . In-depth knowledge of packaging materials, especially PET, PE, and PP , and their sustainable alternatives. Familiarity with sustainability methodologies and frameworks such as GHG Protocol, ISO 20400, EcoVadis, SBT frameworks, and life cycle assessment tools (or similar). Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional projects and influence senior stakeholders across technical and commercial domains. High level of numeracy, analytical thinking, and commercial acumen, with a strong bias for action and results. Experience with ESG reporting, Scope 3 decarbonisation, and traceability frameworks. Familiarity with digital procurement tools, data platforms, and sustainability reporting systems. Additional Qualifications: Open to experienced procurement consultants looking to transition in-house into a high-impact, globally scoped role. Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to navigate complex matrix organisations. Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus. Based in Amsterdam, with flexibility for hybrid working (1-2 days from home). Relocation support available; sponsorship not offered at this stage.
