Director of Building Surveying

The Opportunity A leading UK property consultancy is seeking an ambitious and commercially-minded Director of Building Surveying to head up its Building Consultancy service in the North East, based in Newcastle. This strategic leadership role offers the chance to shape and grow a regional Building Surveying function, backed by a national consultancy platform. The role will focus on winning and delivering work, developing client relationships, and mentoring a growing team of surveyors. Key Responsibilities Lead and develop the Building Surveying service in the North East Deliver a balanced pipeline of professional and project-based services Undertake core surveying work including dilapidations, TDD, pre-acquisition surveys, contract administration, and reinstatement cost assessments Build and maintain strong client relationships across the public and private sectors Support recruitment, training, and development of junior team members Collaborate with other service lines across the wider consultancy business Take full P&L responsibility for the local Building Consultancy offering Uphold high standards of compliance, risk management, and quality control Candidate Profile MRICS qualified Building Surveyor (8–10 years PQE) Proven experience delivering commercial Building Surveying services Strong business development and client relationship skills Demonstrated experience in team leadership or mentoring Financially astute with an understanding of forecasting and reporting Confident communicator and capable of working with a variety of stakeholders Benefits & Progression Base salary up to £120,000 depending on experience Car allowance and performance-related bonus Flexible and hybrid working arrangements 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays Opportunity to work on high-profile national and regional projects Clear path to equity or further senior leadership roles Supportive culture with national resource and infrastructure This is the ideal opportunity for someone looking to build something new — with the backing and infrastructure of a national property consultancy.
