Job Description
Lead Designer – Job Description Primary Responsibilities Support the Design Managers with day-to-day activities to ensure project deadlines are met according to the planned schedule. Take ownership of allocated projects as assigned by the Design Manager. Brief the design and technical teams on new projects and provide ongoing guidance throughout. Review drawings to confirm alignment with the project brief, brand guidelines, and company standards. Prepare, review, and approve drawings based on outcomes from design review meetings. Assume full responsibility for any drawings personally reviewed and checked. Additional Responsibilities Action and communicate changes following instruction updates or best practice notices: Ensure changes are briefed to the team. Update relevant templates as needed. Collaborate with external consultants as required per project: Project Managers Specialist Joinery Consultants M&E Consultants Signage Contractors Main Contractors Landlord/Leaseholder (LL) Design Teams (e.g., shopping centres, travel sites) Assist Design Managers in preparing detailed submissions and forms required by landlords or airports. Maintain and manage design templates, ensuring all information remains current. Identify design amendments required on drawings and advise Design Managers accordingly to support project planning. Conduct concession store surveys and site visits when needed. Attend site visits and inspections as required. Oversee the final as-built drawing package, ensuring accuracy before submission. Fulfill Principal Designer duties under building regulations, including attending site, coordinating with consultants, and submitting necessary documentation. Notify the Design Manager monthly of any additional work to be invoiced. Experience Requirements Proven experience in hospitality design. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Experience in managing client relationships. Previous experience as a Lead Designer preferred. Project management expertise. Technical Skills Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to thoroughly check team drawings for 100% accuracy. Proficiency in AutoCAD is essential. Familiarity with Vectorworks is advantageous but not mandatory. Skilled in Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign for compiling presentation materials and design guides. Competent in additional tools such as Photoshop and Acrobat. Personal Attributes & Soft Skills Strong team collaboration skills, especially on brand rollout programs. Creative problem-solving and value engineering abilities to maintain design quality within budget constraints. Decisive and capable of making informed design and project-related decisions. Highly adaptable and deadline-driven. Capable of giving constructive and clear feedback to the design team. Excellent communication skills, maintaining open lines with Design Managers and Directors. Lateral thinking and effective problem-solving. Strong multitasking and time management capabilities. Able to modify standard designs creatively to suit unique or non-standard sites. Aware of current design trends and able to motivate and inspire team members. Stay updated with supplier CPD sessions and share insights with the team. Consistent and detail-oriented in all drawing work. Comfortable working both independently and as part of a fast-paced, deadline-driven team.
