Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Step Down Duration: 22 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a similar role required License: Valid nursing license required; pending licenses accepted Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required Must-Have: Epic experience required Previous charge experience preferred Description: This is a 12-bed unit utilizing critical care and neuroscience principles at the intermediate level. Common patient populations include patients transferring from the Neuro ICU. This unit cares for patients who have experienced neuro trauma, subarachnoid hemorrhage, intraventricular hemorrhage, or intracerebral hemorrhage. The patient population also includes ENT patients with cancer who have had tumor resections and flap reconstructions, post-operative spine patients, and a wide range of neurological problems. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:3. Patients typically include adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Daily census is around 10 patients within 12 rooms. Interdisciplinary support includes IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and transportation. Special patient diagnoses are neurosurgery, neuro trauma, ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke, neuro-endovascular intervention, head and neck tumor resection and reconstruction, spinal surgery, spinal cord injury, and neurological and neuromuscular disorders. Key skills required include arterial line management, blood product administration, craniotomy care, interpretation of dysrhythmias, and seizure management, among others. Candidates will float within their scope of practice as necessary. References are required. Candidates must adhere to float policies and others relevant to the role.
