Job Description Job Description Our client, a hospital in Queens, New York, has a dedicated observation unit within its emergency department. This unit is designed for patients who need close monitoring for a short period (typically less than 24 hours) to determine if they need to be admitted as inpatients or can be discharged. The observation unit helps to streamline patient flow and reduce hospital stays. Job Summary As a Physician Assistant you will perform a variety of functions and technical procedures necessary for admission, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up and outcome evaluation with in the Observation Unit. Duties and Responsibilities (in order of importance and/or frequency) Takes initial patient histories and performs physical examinations with documentation on EPIC electronic medical record system. Initiates, documents and communicates the plan of care and follows-up to ensure complete screening and preparation of patients. Writes orders for medications, laboratory work and diagnostic tests. Interprets laboratory and test results as they pertain to gastrointestinal, hepatic and medicine subspecialties. Confers with attending physicians, residents, nursing staff and/or other care providers to ensure optimum quality of patient care. Upon discharge, will assist with prescriptions Performs related duties, as required. Special projects and related duties at the discretion of the department director. Minimum Licensing Requirements Licensed Physician Assistant (LPA) by the New York State Department of Education, required Minimum Certification Requirements Current NCCPA Certification from the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), required. Current BLS and ACLS certification, required. This position generally reports to Chief of Observation Schedule: This position is 3 nights/week Salary range: 140,000-180,000.
