Microbiology Services Head

Role Overview This is a really exciting opportunity to join a growing organisation as their new Microbiology Services Department Head. In this position you will lead and inspire a compact, high-performing team within a busy water analysis laboratory. Reporting to the Site Laboratory Director, you’ll own the microbiology workflow and associated services, from team management and operational excellence to regulatory compliance and interdepartmental collaboration. Your work will directly influence both the quality of public health monitoring and the laboratory’s ability to continue scaling rapidly. Key Responsibilities Lead and coach a microbiology team (currently 5-6 staff), ensuring excellence in technical skill, teamwork, and morale. Champion hygiene and biosafety standards, creating a culture of precision, safety, and professionalism. Manage all people-related aspects with expertise, labor law compliance, staffing, objective management, and adherence to company protocols. Deliver consistently high-quality results, meeting both scientific standards and operational deadlines. Oversee maintenance and calibration of equipment, and proactively manage inter-laboratory comparisons and quality events. Drive and participate in external audits, especially accreditation reviews. Partner with other departments (Quality, R&D, IT, Supply Chain, Operational Excellence) to initiate and implement technical and organisational improvements. Who You Are You hold a Diploma in Microbiology, Biotechnology, or equivalent (Bac2 to Bac5) . You are practical, organised, and autonomous , with a real-world mindset and positivity under pressure. Your communication, listening, and synthesis skills are exceptional, you thrive in client-service environments.
