Job Description
A mining operation in Rustenburg is seeking an experienced License & Permit Manager to manage all regulatory licenses, permits, and authorisations required for ongoing and future mining operations. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with South African legislation, maintain strong relationships with regulatory bodies, and oversee timely submissions and renewals of mining, environmental, and operational permits. Key Responsibilities: Manage the application, renewal, and compliance of all mining licenses, water use licenses, environmental permits, waste management permits, and related authorisations. Ensure compliance with the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act (MPRDA), National Environmental Management Act (NEMA), Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA), and other applicable laws. Liaise with the Department of Mineral Resources & Energy (DMRE), Department of Water & Sanitation, environmental authorities, and local municipalities. Maintain accurate records and tracking systems for permits, licenses, and associated compliance deadlines. Collaborate with legal, environmental, community, and operational teams to ensure that permitting requirements align with operational plans and project timelines. Prepare and submit documentation, reports, and applications to relevant government and regulatory bodies. Support stakeholder engagement processes, including community consultation requirements tied to permitting. Provide regular compliance updates and risk assessments to senior management. Identify regulatory changes and ensure proactive compliance planning. Assist in audits, inspections, and investigations by authorities. Requirements: Bachelors Degree in Law, Environmental Science, Mining Engineering, or related field. Minimum 7 years experience in mining or heavy industry, with a strong focus on licensing and permitting processes. Strong knowledge of South African mining, environmental, water, and safety legislation. Experience with DMRE and other regulatory authority processes is essential. Proven track record of managing license and permit submissions, renewals, and audits. Excellent organisational, documentation, and reporting skills. Strong stakeholder management and government liaison experience. Attributes and Competencies: Highly detail-oriented and structured. Strong problem-solving and compliance risk assessment abilities.
