⚖️ Role | Director of Governance Areas | Governance, Risk, Data Protection, Legal Services, Committee Administration ✨ Tech | Information governance systems, audit & risk tools Based | Hertfordshire (hybrid working) Offer | £75,000 – £85,000 | 6-month fixed term contract (with potential to go permanent) Hi We’re working with a respected higher education institution seeking to appoint a Director of Governance on an interim basis. This is a pivotal leadership role, responsible for driving governance, compliance, risk management and legal oversight at the highest level of the organisation. As Director of Governance, you will: Lead and develop governance frameworks, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards and best practice. Act as Secretary to Council and its key committees, overseeing governance administration and information flow. Serve as the institution’s Data Protection Officer, managing compliance, FOI requests and subject access processes. Oversee risk management and legal service provision, including liaison with internal audit. Provide strategic advice to senior leadership, supporting the delivery of the university’s long-term objectives. Lead, mentor and develop a dedicated governance team, embedding a culture of accountability and excellence. What we’re looking for: Degree-level qualification (or equivalent senior-level experience). Significant governance expertise within higher education or a similarly regulated sector. Demonstrable experience in governance, policy, risk and compliance at executive level. Strong track record of committee administration, reporting and executive support. Proven ability to lead and inspire professional teams. Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills. Substantial knowledge of data protection legislation and requirements.
