Job Description

Role Summary The Design Lead will lead and manage the end-to-end design process of a complex construction project, ensuring alignment with client requirements, statutory regulations, buildability, and commercial strategy. The role is accountable for design compliance, quality, programme integration, risk management, and multidisciplinary coordination. Level of Education (Minimum) Bachelors degree in Architecture and/or Civil/Structural Engineering (UK institution preferred). Work Experience (years) 10 years total experience with experience in major venue or complex, multidisciplinary projects; prior main-contractor or lead-consultant coordination experience essential. Functional Experience Mandatory: Design leadership/management across RIBA Stages (07), multi-discipline coordination, approvals, programme integration, working knowledge of BIM-based delivery. Sectoral Experience Mandatory: Large-scale sports/venue, complex steelwork/long-span structures, faade systems, MEP-intensive buildings. Abroad/UK Experience Preferred: UK planning and Building Regulations, CDM 2015, and stakeholder interfaces with statutory authorities and building control. Management Experience Mandatory: Leading internal teams and external consultants; oversight of BIM and design review processes. Foreign Language English: C1C2 (professional proficiency). Technical Know-How / Certificates Chartered status (RIBA/ARB for Architects; CIBSE/IStructE or equivalent) strongly preferred. CDM 2015 awareness/Principal Designer duties; CSCS Manager/Professional level; BIM Level 2 / ISO 19650 awareness; Full UK driving licence. Software/Tools Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, Rhino/Grasshopper, SketchUp, model review and coordination platforms (Asite, Aconex, Viewpoint, BIM 360/ACC), Microsoft Project/Asta Powerproject, MS Office. Behavioural Competencies Leadership, communication, and collaboration across diverse stakeholders. Strategic thinking with strong attention to detail and problem-solving in consideration of project programme constraints. Technical Competencies Advanced design management knowledge across RIBA stages and robust understanding of UK planning/Building Regulations, CDM 2015, fire strategy and stadia green guide. Long-span structures, bowl geometry, MEP coordination, specialist technical packages, acoustics, crowd movement/modelling and fit-out. BIM-led coordination and 3D model reviews; familiarity with prefabrication, DfMA and MMC. Value management/engineering, lifecycle design, and sustainable strategies (for example BREEAM, WELL, Net Zero). Design-risk and change-management/control protocols; contractual awareness of design deliverables and consultant agreements.
