Job Description
Overview Join AirAdvisor – Innovate, Lead, and Make an Impact About Us AirAdvisor is dedicated to ensuring air travelers receive compensation for flight disruptions, including delays, cancellations, missed connections, or airline-related issues like overbooking. In June 2025, we launched a new service for baggage claims for lost, delayed, and/or destroyed luggage. We operate in the EU, UK, and other international markets, protecting air passenger rights globally. We have processed over 500,000 claims for clients from 221 countries, with a 4.7-star rating from 25,550 reviews. We currently operate in 21 languages (with 9 more forthcoming this year). AirAdvisor is a fast-growing startup with a vision for international expansion and a goal to reach 1 million claims by the end of 2026. We are seeking a highly skilled Litigation Lawyer specializing in consumer flight claims (typically via small claims procedure) to lead in-court collections, owning or potentially opening their own boutique law firm in Italy. Pre-court collections are managed by a team of paralegals. You will file batches of court cases to collect compensation and/or reimbursement of Out-of-Pocket Expenses (OPE) incurred by passengers and/or recover ticket refunds. AirAdvisor handles three types of airline claims: EU261 compensation for delays, cancellations, and denied boarding; and three types of baggage claims under the Montreal Convention: lost, delayed, and/or destroyed luggage. If the law or a judge decides a case unfairly, we may escalate to influence the law where feasible. There may be PR opportunities related to court victories and essential legal issues for public awareness. This is an excellent opportunity for high performers who can self-perform, have strong litigation experience, and are passionate about advocating consumer rights in the airline industry. The candidate must be free from conflicts of interest (free to litigate against different airlines). Requirements : A valid Attorney at Law license in Italy and professional liability insurance. A law degree from an accredited institution. Experience with small claims, consumer rights, or aviation law is a plus, but not required. Knowledge of relevant consumer protection laws and aviation regulations is a plus, but not required. Proven track record of success in in-court collection. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess case merits, conduct legal research, and develop effective legal strategies. Ability to manage a caseload, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and track statute of limitations. Experience in automating and standardizing claims management processes to scale up quickly. Responsibilities : Act as the legal representative of AirAdvisor in Italy, handling all legal matters and claims filed within the jurisdiction. If setting up a law firm in Italy were feasible, you would assist in this matter, including corporate structuring and other formalities. Pre-court collections and out-of-court settlements. Prepare and file batches of approximately 200 new claims monthly in Italian courts against various airlines for recovering: a) Compensation under EU Regulation 261/2004 and/or Turkish SHY Regulation for delays, cancellations, and denied boarding. b) Reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses incurred by passengers under EU261/2004 and/or the Montreal Convention. c) Ticket refunds owed to passengers under applicable legal frameworks. d) Handle baggage-related claims, including delayed, damaged, or lost luggage, under the Montreal Convention and/or Warsaw Convention. Respond comprehensively and assertively to airline defenses, including substantive and procedural/jurisdictional challenges. Lead enforcement of court judgments, including initiating enforcement proceedings and coordinating with authorities when needed. Engage in court-led settlement negotiations and represent AirAdvisor’s interests in favorable in-court settlements where applicable. Maintain complete and accurate legal case files, ensure compliance with Italian legal ethics, data protection regulations, and professional standards. Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to manage recurring legal issues in airline and consumer rights litigation. Stay informed about developments in consumer protection law, aviation regulations, EU regulations, and precedents to provide updated legal advice and representation. Where applicable, pursue legal remedies including appeals, and advocate for legislative changes if feasible. Support the optimization and automation of claims management workflows using legal technology, including AI-based tools, to improve efficiency and scalability. Identify and propose new civil claims opportunities viable under Italian law with low-value, high-volume potential, including cross-jurisdictional research. Represent AirAdvisor in local media, coordinating with the PR Manager to leverage public relations opportunities surrounding landmark rulings or developments to raise awareness of consumer rights. Review and vet content as needed to build local trust and authority. Advocate for passenger and consumer rights within the airline and travel industry. Soft skills : Professional, ambitious, and open to testing new AI optimization solutions and new approaches to claims management. Self-aware, honest, and able to take responsibility for mistakes while driving continuous improvement. Result-oriented with a proven ability to deliver fast and make a significant impact. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with initiative. Exceptional problem-solving skills and creative thinking abilities. Independent, able to work without constant supervision. Devotion to delivering customer satisfaction and willingness to go above and beyond. Excellent communication skills to articulate complex ideas clearly. We offer : Remote-first culture with flexible start and end times; working hours are tracked via our time-tracking application. Paid Time Off and public holidays for work-life balance. Annual pay review and performance-based bonuses. Professional growth opportunities in global expansion and new markets. Dynamic work environment with opportunities to learn in new ways. Supportive team culture and international colleagues across 11 countries. Job Type : Indefinite-term Service Agreement or a B2B Contract.
