Job Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse - Operating Room Profession: Nursing Specialty: Acute Care Duration: 15 weeks Shift: Full Time, Weekdays Hours per Shift: 4x9s (0630/0730 - 1530/1630) Experience: Minimum years of experience required License: RN Licensure Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, NIHSS (all through AHA or RQI only) Must-Have: Call rotation includes 1 weekday of call per week and approximately 3 full weekends of call during the contract Description: The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical skills, and communication skills in delivering high-quality compassionate care to patients and families. The Registered Professional Nurse assesses patient needs and develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. The nurse provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates care delivery throughout the patient's care episode. The Operating Room RN develops specialized skills in caring for patients admitted for various medical conditions. He/She provides care to adult, adolescent, and geriatric populations with medical needs. The RN is accountable for patient and family education to assist in understanding self-care beyond hospitalization, including lifestyle changes to support health and healing. The RN is expected to promote comfort and provide emotional support in a healing environment. The RN applies nursing knowledge and skill in delivering care. The RN assesses patient and family needs through active listening, awareness of reactions, and analysis of data obtained through observations and assessments. The RN creates an individualized plan of care that is developmentally and culturally relevant, addressing the nature and scope of identified health problems. In collaboration with the patient, family, physician, and healthcare team members, the RN sets goals and monitors patient progress. The RN adjusts the plan based on patient response, changes in condition, or reprioritization of needs. The RN promotes, advocates for, and protects the health, safety, and rights of the patient. The RN encourages mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to achieve the best possible patient outcomes. The RN teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks consistent with the education, training, and scope of practice of individuals. The RN understands the personal responsibility to safeguard public safety through compliance with infection prevention strategies. The RN motivates the patient and family by teaching them what is needed to continue care and healing at home. The RN assesses the patient and family learning styles and structures education sessions to maximize understanding. The RN seeks teachable moments during the care delivery process to emphasize key information and evaluates retention of important points. The RN provides tools and information to assist the patient’s family after discharge, documenting the education provided and the patient/family's response. The RN systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and uses the results of quality improvement activities to initiate changes in practice and care delivery. The RN engages in self-evaluation of practice, identifying strengths and areas for professional development. The RN takes accountability for enhancing knowledge and skills. The RN uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions to problems. The RN seeks to develop a helping and caring relationship by being present during interactions, listening, and anticipating patient and family needs. The RN strives to understand what is most important to the patient and family, acknowledging that they are the central focus of all care and services. The RN embraces the importance of creating a healing environment as a key element of professional nursing practice. The RN demonstrates skill in applying interventions, including medication administration. Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens is reasonably anticipated, with required tasks involving potential contact with blood, body fluids, and tissues.
