Job Description
Job Title: Emergency Department Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Emergency Duration: 18 weeks Shift: Must be able to work through holidays; no guaranteed RTO on major holidays Hours per Shift: 3x12s 2 On Call shifts per 4 weeks Experience: Two years acute hospital experience as an RN, at least one year in an ED environment License: RN Licensure Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, Stroke Certification (Must be AHA or RQI) Must-Have: Two years of experience serving as a Registered Nurse, with at least one year in an Emergency Department environment Description: The Emergency Department Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical skills, and communication skills in delivering high-quality compassionate care to patients and families. The ED RN assesses patient needs and identifies the urgent or emergent care priority. The ED RN collaboratively provides direct care, applies appropriate interventions, and evaluates patient progress. The ED RN demonstrates skill in using various invasive and non-invasive procedures, treatments, and therapeutic interventions to manage life-threatening and routine emergency situations. The ED RN utilizes the principles of relationship-based care to alleviate anxiety, provide information, and address pain, discomfort, and safety. The RN assesses the physiological, psychosocial, emotional, and cultural needs of patients of all age groups, their families, and support systems. The RN connects with patients and families during triage and identifies the initial management of patients of all age groups, assigning priority of care in accordance with Triage Standards. The RN establishes rapport with patients and families, addresses comfort needs, listens carefully, assesses nonverbal communication, and provides frequent updates. The RN conveys and gathers information concisely and accurately. The RN conducts primary assessments of critical needs and documents any major deviations from the norm for all age groups within acceptable time frames. The RN correctly identifies necessary steps and interventions required and uses direct observation, patient/family interviews, and data to conduct secondary assessments. The RN identifies contributing factors, health history, and events preceding the emergent health event. The RN assesses psychosocial needs, documents, and reports any suspicion of domestic violence or abuse in all age groups. The RN reassesses the patient to identify responses to treatment and/or changes in condition and responds appropriately. The RN encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to achieve the best possible patient outcomes. The RN teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks and interventions consistent with individual education, training, and scope of practice. The RN understands the personal responsibility to safeguard public safety through compliance with infection prevention strategies. The RN prepares patients and families for diagnostic procedures and treatments. The RN makes appropriate referrals for post-emergency care and teaches patients what is needed to continue care at home. The RN assesses patient and family learning styles and structures the education sessions to maximize understanding. The RN asks questions to evaluate retention of key points in the education and discharge instructions. The RN seeks to understand what is most important to the patient and family, acknowledging their central focus in all care and services. The RN embraces the importance of creating a healing environment as a key element of professional nursing practice. The RN keeps the patient and significant others informed of the process of care and anticipates patient/family needs. The RN maintains awareness of the patient's condition throughout the visit and updates patient communication boards.
