Job Description
A manufacturer of automotive components based in Durban is looking for a Maintenance Supervisor / Manager to lead a maintenance team. The role reports to the Plant Manager. Job Purpose: Responsible maintenance foreman to manage maintenance staff. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of mechanical and technical work and have excellent leadership and supervisory skills. You will direct and oversee all daily maintenance activities including delegation of tasks, tracking mechanical performance, and directing the processes of any necessary repairs. This includes managing the upkeep of all manufacturing assets, managing the maintenance budget and resources and assisting in the design and installation of new systems. KEY PERFORMANCE AREA 1.1. Supervising team members and ensuring their safety Supervise a team of maintenance, and repair personnel, such as plumbers, electricians, cleaners, technicians, gardeners, machine operators and painters. Schedule shifts for different team members, delegate duties, check progress and offer guidance during complex maintenance processes. Ensure the implementation of safety policies to improve workplace safety and compliance levels. 1.2. Tracking budgets and expenditure Create department budgets, monitor expenses, place product orders and submit or approve invoices. Forecast future maintenance needs, consider project delays and account for compliance with industry quality standards. 1.3. Inspecting machinery and equipment Ensure that all systems, equipment and machinery at a site function optimally. Conduct periodic inspections to identify performance or safety issues with the machinery and resolve them. 1.4. Designing maintenance protocols Create standard operating procedures (SOPs) to improve the functionality, compliance and safety of manufacturing systems. Planning repair and installation activities. Coordinate with relevant teams to ensure minimum downtime when performing maintenance activities, such as repairs, upgrades or installations. Coordinate the schedules and availability of different teams to accomplish this task. This is particularly important in workplaces and manufacturing sites where a disruption in normal business processes can result in a significant monetary loss 1.5. Managing product equipment inventory Responsible for purchasing, storing and issuing these products for different activities. Create detailed records of such orders, invoices and vendors for future reference, and audit purposes. 1.6. Maintaining records of maintenance= Maintain internal records of the maintenance of equipment and share these records with relevant teams to ensure higher coordination. 1.7. Collaborating with service providers Collaborate with third-party contractors or service providers for timely repairs. Manage professional relationships with contractors, schedule maintenance activities and coordinate invoicing. Standards, Procedures & Administration Ensure understanding and application of all relevant policies and procedures set out in the Quality Management System as may be appropriate. Responsible for finalization and submission of CARs relating to non-conformances in the department as directed by QA. Ensure that audit findings are resolved timeously Safety, Health, Environmental & Housekeeping Ensure an understanding of the departmental budget, as may be applicable, and ensure a practice of cost control. Ensure accurate and timely reporting as may apply to the respective KPAs for the position. Minimum Qualifications and Experience. Bachelors degree/diploma in Mechanical/Electrical engineering or a relevant qualification Prior experience working as a maintenance manager, repair manager, or in a related role Experience in dealing with budgets, schedules and reporting in terms of maintenance work Understanding of legal safety regulations 10 years of working experience in a similar managerial position.
