Job Description

Freelance Assistant Quantity Surveyor (AQS) Location: Central York – 3 days per week on site Duration: 6 months, with potential to extend Employer: Tier 1 Civil Engineering Contractor Day Rate: Inside IR35 | £250 – £300 per day The Project This role is based on a city centre railway station upgrade in York – a high-profile scheme with more phases expected. With a junior QS leaving the team, a gap has opened up for an Assistant QS to come in and support the commercial function. The Role You’ll be working alongside experienced QS and SQS colleagues, gaining exposure to a wide range of commercial duties while keeping the project running smoothly. Day-to-day responsibilities include: Assisting with subcontract account management Helping with change management and variations Supporting with contract administration (NEC / Network Rail) Gathering data and contributing to CVR reporting Providing general commercial support across civils and rail works What You’ll Need Some experience in a commercial role within civils or rail (placement year, graduate scheme, or early freelance roles welcome) A good understanding of NEC contracts (training/support provided) Eager to learn, proactive, and confident working within a Tier 1 contractor environment If you’re an Assistant QS looking to step onto a flagship project in York, get in touch today.
