Job Description
Your personal sphere of influence:Our dynamic interdisciplinary team at the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry offers a position for a PraeDoc in the areas of bioinorganic chemistry, coordination chemistry, and chemical biology in an inspiring scientific environment and a pleasant working atmosphere. A main aim of our work is the development of innovative approaches to target the role of transition metals in cancer growth. Strong expertise and state-of-the-art instrumentation for developing novel anticancer drugs are provided by this team.The contract duration is 3 years with a preliminary limitation of 1,5 years and will automatically be extended to 3 years unless the employer hands in a non-extension declaration after 12 months. An extension up to a total of 4 years is then possible provided the excellent performance of the candidate.Your future tasks:You actively participate in research as well as teaching which means:• Original research projects in the area of bioinorganic chemistry mainly focusing on the synthesis and characterization of novel ligands and/or metal complexes for applications in chemical biology and medicinal chemistry. • Synthetic research work will take place in close coordination with experts in molecular biology and cell biology to enable the optimal design of the potential cancer therapeutics. • You will be expected to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months. • You will be actively involved in research, teaching and administration.• You will participate in publications, academic articles, presentations.• You will take part in teaching duties to the extent specified in the collective agreement.• You will supervise bachelor and master students and carry out administrative tasks in teaching or research. This is part of your personality:• You have a diploma or master’s degree in chemistry, preferably with inorganic chemistry or equivalent qualification. • Experience in the field of synthetic chemistry, especially in the synthesis of biologically active organometallics, preferably of tumor-inhibiting iron and/or ruthenium complexes.• Experience in characterization of novel structures by homo/hetero nuclear 1D/2D NMR spectroscopy is required.• Experience working under inert conditions (Schlenk technique) and experience in microwave-assisted synthesis of metal complexes is desirable.• Basic experience in research methods and academic writing.• Attention to detail and ability to work both independently and as part a team. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.• Experience in academic teaching (including e-learning) is desirable.• As an enthusiastic, hard-working, dedicated person who enjoys working independently as well as being a team player, you will blend into and be a valuable addition to our group.• Very good knowledge of German and English.
