Your personal sphere of play:The Department of Demography, a subunit of the Faculty of Social Sciences, is seeking a postdoctoral researcher with an excellent command of demography and its methods, for a period of six years. The candidate's PhD thesis should focus on a topic relevant to the department, such as fertility and family, mortality and health, migration, or population analysis and human capital. The candidate should present a clear personal work plan for the six-year role. The position involves teaching in English, and the successful applicant will be expected to participate in the life of the department by helping to organise scientific and teaching events, such as the WiC conference and the Master's welcome event, by representing the DoD at the WiC conference booth, etc.The Department of Demography at the University of Vienna is a pillar of the Wittgenstein Centre for Demography and Global Human Capital (WiC), a world-leading institution specialising in population research. You will join a dynamic research environment comprising over 60 scientists from more than 20 countries and representing a wide range of social science disciplines.Your future tasks:Active participation in research, teaching and administration, which means:Developing and strengthening your independent research profileHigh-quality research, international presentation and publication activityCollaborating on research studies with a dynamic team of demographic expertsYou hold courses independently within the provisions of the collective bargaining agreementInvolvement in research projectsInvolvement in the department’s administration, in research dissemination and in scientific and teaching activities. This is part of your personality:Your profile: You completed a PhD in Demography, Quantitative Sociology, Economics, Social Statistics, Human Geography or a closely related discipline with a focus on quantitative methods. You have an excellent knowledge of demography and its methods.You specialise in one or more of the following fields and topics: fertility and family, mortality and health, migration, population projections, population analysis.You possess excellent skills in your area of specialization.You have proven experience of working with microdata.You excel in using statistical software, such as Stata, R or Python.You have demonstrated your capacity to conduct original and rigorous research independently and produce excellent publications.You have publications as the main author in renowned, subject-relevant, peer-reviewed outletsYou are proficient in English (knowledge of German is not required).
